June 21, 1934 — July 14, 2026

Fred Duane Capps, a beloved brother, uncle, and friend, passed away on July 14, 2026, at the age of 92. Born on June 21, 1934, in the serene town of Doty, Washington, Fred was the cherished son of Ralph and Ollie (Aust) Capps. He grew up surrounded by the love of his family and the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest, which would become a lifelong source of joy and inspiration. Fred was a proud alumnus of Doty School, where he developed a strong foundation of knowledge and values. Upon completing his education, he answered the call to serve his country by joining the Marines, dedicating two years of his life to the service of the nation. After his honorable military service, Fred embarked on a fulfilling career with the Columbia and Cowlitz Railway Co., where he worked as a brakeman. His dedication to his work and his colleagues earned him respect and admiration throughout the company. Fred's life was filled with a diverse array of interests and hobbies that reflected his zest for life. He loved to hunt for arrowheads with his Uncle Paul Capps, a pastime that connected him deeply to his family's history and the natural world. Fred was an avid bowler and a passionate traveler, always eager to explore new places and cultures. His love for music was evident in the joyful, silly songs he sang to his nieces and nephews, leaving them with cherished memories of his playful spirit. An enthusiastic fan of the Mariners, Fred delighted in watching and attending games, his excitement contagious to those around him. He also had a great appreciation for automobiles and took pleasure in discovering quality restaurants, which highlighted his status as an original Foodie. Fred's culinary interests extended to baking, where he enjoyed experimenting with new recipes and sharing his creations with family and friends. He especially relished the cooking of his mother and sister-in-law, which brought him comfort and delight. Fred is survived by his brother, Ken Capps, and sister-in-law, Dorothy; nieces Karla Eisland and Kelly Klein; nephews Kevin and Keith Klein, Mike and Brett Capps; along with numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews, all of whom will forever cherish the love, laughter, and kindness he brought into their lives. He is predeceased by his parents, Ralph and Ollie Capps; his sister, Billie, and brother-in-law, Ron Klein; and his close friend and cousin, Clarence "Pink" Edwards, and Margaret.
