Fred Berg September 1, 1967 - July 24, 2026 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Fred Berg, who departed from this world on July 24, 2026, after a courageous 10-month battle with esophageal cancer. Fred was born on September 1, 1967, in Smithfield, Utah, to his loving parents, Gene and Pauline Esplin. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, dedication, and unwavering love for those around him. Fred grew up in a family filled with love and support, alongside his brothers Bart (Tina), Clay (Samantha), Chad (Konnie), Jason (Tiffany), and his sister Alison (Paul) Fluckiger. He was a cherished uncle to many nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly. Fred also found a family away from home in Bob, Jana, and Steven Stockdale, and his dear friend Manoj Katel, who stood by him throughout his journey. A bright and dedicated student, Fred graduated from Sky View High School. He then embarked on a mission to the West Indies, where he served with devotion and spoke French for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Upon his return, he pursued higher education at Utah State University, where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering. His thirst for knowledge and passion for the environment led him to obtain a Master's degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering with a focus on hydrology. Fred's professional journey began with the State of Montana as a hydrologist in Glasgow. His career flourished when he joined the Bureau of Reclamation in Billings, Montana, where he rose to become the regional director for the Missouri Basin and Arkansas-Rio Grande Texas Gulf Regions. Fred approached his work with enthusiasm and integrity, but it was the camaraderie and friendships he forged with his colleagues that he cherished most. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Fred was an active and devoted member of his church community. He dedicated countless years to working with the young men in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, leaving a lasting, positive influence on many lives. His commitment to service and his gentle, non-judgmental nature endeared him to all who knew him. Fred was a man of many passions. He loved spending his free time with those who mattered most, engaging in activities such as backpacking, rafting, jeeping, playing games, and undertaking home improvement projects. His adventurous spirit led him to travel extensively, visiting every continent except Australia. Fred had a particular fondness for waterfalls, having marveled at the grandeur of Niagara, Victoria, and Iguazu Falls. His travel companions, especially Doug Baldwin, will sorely miss his adventurous spirit and warm companionship. A kind-hearted soul, Fred's life was marked by his dedication to others, his hard-working nature, and his genuine friendship. Though he leaves no grandchildren or great-grandchildren, the impact he had on his family and friends is immeasurable. In remembrance of Fred's generous spirit, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in his honor. Fred Berg's life was a testament to love, service, and adventure. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
