In Loving Memory

Franklin Earl Denson
February 23, 1960 — May 30, 2026
It is with profound sadness and heartfelt gratitude for the life we were all so fortunate to share that we announce the passing of Franklin Earl Denson, affectionately known as "Big Frank," on May 30, 2026. Born on February 23, 1960, in Cleveland, Ohio, Frank brought light and laughter into the world from the moment he arrived. He was 66 years old.
Frank was the cherished son of Robert and Gertrude Denson, whose values shaped the compassionate and generous man he became. Though he is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Lonnie Mickens and Gertrude Denson, Frank's spirit and love continue to live on through the family and friends who now carry his legacy forward.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Sharlet Denson, who was not only his partner but his confidant, comfort, and greatest earthly joy. Their love story began in 1996 and culminated in marriage on March 21, 2015, in San Diego, California. Together, they embarked on life's adventures, including a move to Tucson, Arizona, after retiring, where they embraced a new chapter side by side.
Frank’s family was the center of his universe. He leaves behind his dear daughter, Tisha Denson, and her six children, who will carry on his legacy with love and pride. His stepdaughter, Meka Mitchum, along with her four children—Caleb, Elijah, Victoria, and Junior—brought immeasurable light into Frank’s world.
His siblings, brother David Mickens and his wife Renee, along with their sons Jordan, Deion, and Josiah, will forever hold Frank’s memory in their hearts. His sister, Mary Jane Carson, and brother, Don Mickens, and niece Raine, will miss his warmth and humor every day. His nieces, Crystal Carson and Sharyne Carson, along with a host of extended family and dear friends, are left to cherish the memories of a man whose presence was a gift to all who knew him.
Frank dedicated his professional career to the San Diego Culinary Institute as a Chef Instructor, where he nurtured and inspired countless students. Known as "Big Frank," his laughter and heart filled every room he entered, and his passion for cooking was his way of showing love and care. His favorite dish—salmon, rice, and asparagus—was prepared with love and served with generosity, embodying the way he lived his life.
Outside of his professional life, Frank found joy in the simple pleasures that brought people together. He loved to barbecue, transforming every cookout into a celebration of good food, laughter, and connection. His man cave was his sanctuary, a place where he unwound with his brother David, watching games and sharing stories.
Frank was a man of remarkable character, known for his boldness, humor, and generosity. His ability to fill a room with laughter and his unwavering willingness to be there for others defined his life. When Frank loved you, he loved you deeply and genuinely, leaving a lasting impact on everyone he met.
A service to honor Frank's extraordinary life will be held on June 20, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the Coronado Villa Apartments Club House, located at 9225 East Tanque Verde Road, Tucson, AZ 95749. The Denson and Mickens families wish to extend their deepest gratitude for the outpouring of love and support during this difficult time. Every kind word, warm embrace, meal, phone call, and prayer has been felt and cherished.
Franklin Earl Denson's legacy is one of love, laughter, and unwavering generosity. Though he is no longer with us, his spirit lives on in the hearts of those who were privileged to know him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
