In Loving Memory

Franklin Charles Buvia
April 25, 1940 — September 19, 2026
Franklin Charles Buvia, a beloved father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at his home in the presence of his loving son Tom, cherished granddaughter Brittany, devoted nephew Kurt, and faithful dog Bitsi. Franklin's final moments were filled with grace and love, having received his last rites from Father Matthew of Gaylord St. Mary's Catholic Church.
Born on April 25, 1940, in L 'Anse, Michigan, Franklin was the son of Henry and Margaret (Coon) Buvia. He grew up in a close-knit family, attending 11 schools in 12 years and completing his junior and senior years at a Catholic school. This foundation of faith would guide him throughout his life.
Franklin honorably served his country in the U.S. Army from 1959 to 1962, achieving the rank of E-5 while stationed in Germany and France. Before his military service, he worked at Harvey Jewell Funeral Home, and after returning home, he began a long and fulfilling career at Ford Motor Company, retiring after 30 years of dedicated service.
On March 25, 1965, Franklin married the love of his life, Patricia Ella Adkins. Together, they built a beautiful life, raising their two children, Vicki and Thomas. Their marriage was a testament to love and partnership, full of laughter, adventure, and mutual respect. Franklin and Patricia shared a passion for travel, embarking on 15 cruises, and enjoyed simple pleasures like playing cards and visiting the casino. Their final years were spent in Lewiston, Michigan, after many joyful years on Lake Erie in Newport, Michigan.
Franklin was a man of many interests. He was an active member of various community clubs, including the Lewiston Fun Ones Snowmobile Club, the American Legion, The Moose, and the 50+ Club. His love for golf, football, and baseball was well known, as was his talent for fishing and winning at the claw game. Franklin's quick wit, sense of humor, and infamous dad jokes brought joy to everyone around him. He cherished the time spent with his family, especially his son, nephew, and grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his wife Patricia, his daughter Vicki, his parents, and his siblings Don, Audrey, Betty, Retta, and Lorraine, Franklin's legacy lives on through his son Tom Buvia and partner Tina Rumph, his nephew Kurt Bondy, his six grandchildren, and fourteen great-grandchildren. He was fiercely loved and will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
In his final days, Franklin received compassionate care from his son Thomas and granddaughter Brittany, with the support of Hospice of Michigan. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Father Matthew for his comforting presence.
Franklin's life was a testament to love, loyalty, and devotion to family. His departure is a tremendous loss, but his spirit and the memories he created will continue to inspire those he left behind.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Kirtland Community College Foundation in Grayling, MI, as a tribute to Franklin's enduring legacy.
