Frank J. Norfleet

With grateful hearts, we celebrate the remarkable life of Frank Junious Norfleet. He was blessed with 87 years of life, purpose, and unwavering service to his family, his country, and his community. Frank was born in Holland, Virginia on April 25, 1939, the only child of Lucille Perkins. He was raised from humble beginnings by his grandparents Edmond and Iola Norfleet and grew up with his uncles that became more like brothers. Frank's family instilled in him the values of faith, hard work, perseverance, and integrity. These values became the foundation upon which he built his life and inspired all who were privileged to know him. Directly after graduating from high school, Frank started his own family and enlisted in the United States Army, where he faithfully served 26 years. Throughout his distinguished military career, he exemplified courage, discipline, and honor, earning the respect of his fellow soldiers and leaders. His commitment to protecting the freedoms of others was one of his greatest sources of pride. He retired a second time after serving many years with the City of Newport News as a Correctional Officer. Always wanting to stay busy, Frank started his own carpentry business, enjoyed many fishing trips, and spent hours of quality time with his family. He was an active member of the Fraternal Order of Police, the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), and the American Legion. To those who knew him best, Frank fulfilled many roles. He was known for his quiet strength, stubborn wisdom, generous heart, and steadfast character. Whether offering sound advice, lending a helping hand. or simply sharing stories from a life well lived, he touched countless lives with kindness and humility. His legacy is one of resilience, sacrifice, honor, and unconditional love. From modest beginnings to a lifetime dedicated to serving others, Frank leaves behind an enduring example of what it means to live with purpose, dignity, and grace. He is survived by daughters, Regina Norfleet Williams (Michael) of Newport News, Virginia, Barbara Norfleet Wright (David) of Emporia, Virginia, Belinda Norfleet of Newport News, Virginia, Dr. Melinda Norfleet Brown (Joseph, Jr.) of Fredericksburg, Virginia; grandchildren, Brian Michael Williams, Frankie Cotton (Donovan), Jordan Williams (Macy), Brianna Norfleet, Cameron Williams, Zaria Heyward-Brown; great-grandchildren, Semira Norfleet, Sienna Cotton, Leon Williams, Selena Adkins, Quincy Cotton, Lexi Williams. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Evelyn Cooper (James), brothers-in-law Edward Lawrence (Mary), Alexander Lawrence (Iris), and James Lawrence (Linda); a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Zina Mae; mother, Lucille Perkins; grandparents, Edmond and Iola Norfleet; mother-in-law, Jennie Lee Harris; son-in-law, Michael Williams (Regina); brothers-in-law, Shelton Lawrence and Carl Lawrence, and nephews, Kyler Coston, and Wayne Lawrence.
