March 21, 1936 — February 25, 2026
It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Francis (Frank) Joseph Coughlin, who left us on February 25, 2026, at the age of 89. Frank passed away peacefully due to pneumonia, surrounded by the warmth of his family’s love. Born on March 21, 1936, in Boston, Massachusetts, Frank was a beacon of kindness, laughter, and unwavering dedication to family and community.
Frank was the cherished son of the late Francis Patrick Coughlin and Gilda Coughlin. He is now reunited with them and his dear sister, Mildred Peters. He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories with his devoted wife of 61 years, Rosina (Rose) Cristallo, whom he met and married on October 31, 1965, in the very city where his story began.
Together, Frank and Rose created a beautiful family and shared countless moments of joy and togetherness. His daughters, Jana Kammeraad and Jill Miller, son-in-law Eddie Miller, and his treasured grandchildren, Darby Kammeraad, Ryan Kammeraad, and Sabrina Miller, were his pride and joy. He also leaves behind two great-grandchildren, who carry forward his legacy of warmth and humor. Frank is survived by his brothers, Phillip and Michael Coughlin, whose bonds were a testament to the importance of family.
Frank's life was one of purpose and passion. A graduate of Boston English High School in 1953, Frank found his first love in the skies, earning his pilot's license at 17 and becoming a cadet of the Civil Air Patrol. His passion for reading and history led him to a career in publishing, but it was his adventurous spirit and love for family that prompted a bold move in 1972. Together with his wife, children, and siblings-in-law, Frank opened Rosa’s, an Italian restaurant that became a beloved community fixture for more than 50 years.
A lifelong parishioner of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, Frank's faith was a cornerstone of his life. His love for history extended to his hobbies, where he delighted in restoring a 1937 Ford, a nod to his childhood memories and a testament to his meticulous care and dedication. An active member of the National Street Rods Association, Frank's restoration work won him numerous awards, underscoring his skill and passion.
Frank had a deep love for storytelling and humor. Known for his quick wit and warm smile, he had an impeccable memory for names and faces, always making those around him feel cherished. His love for cinema, particularly the nostalgic movie serials and mystery shows, was a testament to his appreciation for a good story, a quality he carried into his own life through his love for jokes and laughter.
Frank's generosity was evident in his charitable donations and the care he showed to those around him. He was a man who valued hard work and took immense pride in providing for his family. His kindness and dedication were the threads that wove the rich tapestry of his life.
A funeral service to celebrate Frank's remarkable life will be held on March 12, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at Green Lawn Funeral Home, located at 3700 River Blvd., Bakersfield, CA 93305. We invite all those whose lives he touched to join us in remembering and honoring him.
The Coughlin family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the ICU staff at Memorial Hospital for their compassionate care and dedication. To all who knew and loved Frank, we thank you for being a part of his journey. "Our father, you will never be forgotten," we will miss you dearly.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Frank’s favorite charities in his honor, continuing his legacy of generosity and kindness.
