It is with profound sadness and deep love that we announce the peaceful passing of Francis Dale Oteham, who left this world on June 28, 2026, at his cherished home in Saint Cloud, Florida. Born on July 17, 1938, in Attica, Indiana, Francis was a man whose life was a testament to love, kindness, and dedication to family and community. Francis was the beloved son of Mary Luella and Edmund Oteham, who predeceased him, along with his siblings, Joan Oteham Tucker and Robert Oteham. He leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter, survived by his devoted wife of 40 years, Carol (Plunkett) Oteham. Together, they built a life full of cherished memories and were blessed with a loving family. He is also survived by his children Sandra (Steve) Beeler of Wildwood, Florida, Stephen (Marti) Oteham of Battleground, Indiana, and Laura Oteham of Titusville, Florida. He was a proud stepfather to Brent (Donna) Veldhuizen of West Lafayette, Indiana, Heidi (Aaron) Riegle of Attica, Indiana, and Nathan (Rebecca S.) Veldhuizen of Colorado Springs, Colorado. His legacy continues through his eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, who brought endless joy to his life. A proud graduate of Attica High School, where he played the trumpet in the school band, Francis carried his love for music and learning throughout his life. He pursued certifications in plumbing, which laid the foundation for a distinguished career at the Indiana Gas Company in Lafayette, Indiana. Over the years, Francis advanced from a service specialist to a Field Supervisor, where he shared his expertise by teaching the intricacies of natural gas installation and safety. His dedication and passion for his work were evident to all who knew him. Francis's enthusiasm for life extended beyond his professional achievements. He was a dedicated 4-H leader, guiding young minds in training their dogs and working with livestock at the Tippecanoe County Fair. In his earlier years, he also owned a Juke Box business and worked part-time for Sears in West Lafayette, Indiana, where his love for engaging with people shone brightly. Even after retiring in 1999, he continued to share his warmth and humor as a part-time sales representative at Sears. Francis's hobbies were as diverse as his talents. He was a skilled woodworker, crafting beautiful creations that brought joy to many. He cherished square dancing, family gatherings, and traveling across the United States. Camping with family and friends, exploring Disney and Seaworld parks, and attending food festivals and farmers markets were among his favorite pastimes. Known for his kindness, compassion, and a gift for communication, Francis had a unique ability to connect with everyone he met. His humor, love for his family, and deep affection for his dogs were hallmarks of his character. His life was a wonderful tapestry of love, laughter, and joy, and his presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. In honor of Francis's life, there will be a Celebration of Life at a future date in Attica, Indiana. His family invites all who knew him to come together in remembrance of a life well-lived and a man well-loved. Though Francis has departed from this world, his spirit remains in the hearts of those he touched. May we carry forward his legacy of love, kindness, and joy as we remember the extraordinary man he was.
