It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Frances Hines, a cherished sister, aunt, and friend, who left this world on May 4, 2026, at ECU North Hospital after bravely battling kidney disease. Born on May 27, 1958, in the warm embrace of Roanoke Rapids, NC, Frances was a beacon of love and generosity, whose life was a testament to kindness and devotion.
Frances was the beloved daughter of Lewis and Josephine Hines, who predeceased her alongside her cherished sister, Gladys Hines, and her dear nephew, Bryant Hines. Her legacy of love and resilience continues to be celebrated by her surviving family, including her devoted brother Wesley Simmons and his wife Sarah, her loving sister Queen Hines, her caring sister Clara Pierce and her husband Kenneth, and a multitude of nieces and nephews who adored her.
A proud graduate of Weldon High School in the Class of 1976, Frances embarked on a remarkable career with the Federal Government. She served diligently with the Department of the Army from 1986 until her well-earned retirement in 2012, contributing her talents at offices in both Washington, DC, and San Antonio, TX. Her dedication to her work was matched only by her commitment to her faith and community.
While residing in Washington, DC, Frances was an active member of Mount Sinai Baptist Church, where she participated passionately in the Evangelism and Outreach Ministry. Her return to North Carolina saw her become a cherished member of First Baptist Church in Weldon, NC, and later, until her passing, at Greater Joy North in Roanoke Rapids, NC. Frances’s faith was a cornerstone of her life and a source of strength for those who knew her.
Frances's Sundays were often filled with the excitement of watching her beloved Dallas Cowboys. Her enthusiasm was infectious as she donned her Cowboys gear and cheered for her team, embodying the spirited and joyful nature for which she was known. Her love for family and friends was boundless, and she maintained close ties with her high school classmates, treasuring these enduring connections.
Frances will be remembered for her giving and loving heart, a soul who loved deeply and freely. Her life was a tapestry of compassion and warmth, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A celebration of Frances’s life will take place on May 16, 2026, at 5:29 PM at Greater Joy North, located at 1711 10th St, Roanoke Rapids, NC 27870. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of a life richly lived and to honor the legacy of a remarkable woman whose spirit will forever illuminate our hearts.
