His formative years in Greenbow were marked by a love for running, a passion that would carry him through life's many adventures. A proud graduate of Greenbow High, Forrest went on to attend the University of Alabama, where he made a name for himself as a star running back. His talent and determination on the field were only surpassed by his humble spirit and genuine kindness off it. Forrest's athletic prowess was a testament to his unwavering dedication and an embodiment of his philosophy to keep moving forward, no matter the obstacles. In 1968, Forrest answered the call to serve his country, enlisting in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He served with honor and distinction until 1972, forming lifelong bonds and leaving an indelible mark on those who served alongside him. It was during this time that Forrest's courage and resilience shone brightly, qualities that would continue to define his life. In 1981, Forrest married the love of his life, Jenny. Their union was a testament to enduring love and devotion, and together they built a life filled with treasured memories and unwavering support for one another. Forrest was a dedicated father to his son, Forrest Gump, Jr., and a doting grandfather to Amanda (18), Forrest III (12), and Jerry (6). Although predeceased by his son, daughter-in-law Ellen Meyers Gump, and grandchildren, his legacy lives on through them, as they carry forward his values of kindness and perseverance. A successful entrepreneur, Forrest was the proud owner and operator of Bubba Gump Shrimp, where he turned his passion for shrimping into a thriving business. Beyond his professional achievements, Forrest was known for his simple joys—an avid runner who traversed the country multiple times, and a man who found peace and satisfaction in the simple act of tending to his lawn. Forrest's life was marked by an unwavering kindness that touched the lives of all he met. He had a unique ability to see the good in everyone and offered a helping hand to those in need.
