Forney Lundy
April 30, 1937 – July 10, 2026
With profound sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of Forney Lundy, beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, on July 10, 2026, after a courageous battle with liver cancer. Surrounded by his loving family, he departed this life at the age of 89, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and dedication.
Forney was born in the small town of Corinne, West Virginia, to Forney Lundy Sr. and Garnet Toler Lundy Wills. He was the youngest of their eight children, growing up in a household filled with the love and warmth of a close-knit family. Predeceased by his parents and siblings Wayne, Evelyne, Alice, Delores, Fred, Rena, and Herman, Forney cherished the memories and values imparted to him by his family.
He married the love of his life, Kay Gaspard, on January 17, 1959, in Alexandria, Louisiana. Their 67-year marriage was a testament to their unwavering love and commitment, filled with laughter, adventure, and mutual respect. Together, they raised two daughters, Donna and Judy, who brought immense joy and pride to their lives. Forney is also survived by his devoted sister Pat, who shared a deep bond with him throughout his life.
Forney's educational journey began at Central High School in Oklahoma City, where he graduated in 1955. His thirst for knowledge led him to further his education at Tarrant County Jr. College in Ft. Worth, Texas, and Ohlone College in Fremont, California. His passion for learning was evident in the many courses he completed at the FAA Management School in Lawton, Oklahoma, and Palm Grove, Florida.
A proud veteran, Forney served four years in the United States Air Force as an air traffic controller, where his exemplary service earned him the Good Conduct Medal before his honorable discharge in 1959. This experience laid the foundation for his distinguished 35-year career with the Federal Aviation Administration, where he retired as the Manager of the Monterey Air Traffic Control Tower in 1994.
Forney was an active and dedicated member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) since 1985. His leadership roles included Secretary of the Salinas Chapter, District Vice President, State Federation Secretary, Executive Vice President, and State Federation President. His commitment to the organization was unmatched, and his passion for recruitment significantly contributed to its growth.
Outside of his career and community service, Forney was a man of many interests. He enjoyed golfing, music, and reading, and had a lifelong fascination with aviation, holding both private and commercial pilot's licenses. His love for flying was a source of joy in his younger years.
Forney's warmth and generosity touched all who knew him. He had a unique ability to make everyone feel welcomed and valued, setting high expectations for himself and others, yet always ready to offer a helping hand.
A celebration of Forney's life will be held on July 21, 2026, at Alta Vista Mortuary, located at 41 East Alisal Street, Salinas, CA. Family and friends are invited to join in remembering a remarkable man who made a lasting impact on everyone he met.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Forney's memory to the National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) or a charity of your choice.
Forney Lundy will be deeply missed but forever remembered by all whose lives he touched. His spirit will continue to inspire and guide us, reminding us of the invaluable lessons he imparted through his life of service, love, and dedication.
