Florence W. Mason, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, peacefully passed away on April 26, 2026, at the age of 82. Born on July 26, 1943, in Baltimore, Maryland, Florence was the cherished daughter of the late Oliver Henry Wilson and Ruth Wilson. Her life was an inspiring testament to love, faith, and service.
Florence spent her formative years in Salisbury, Maryland, where she attended Wicomico High School. She pursued higher education with unwavering determination, earning her bachelor’s degree from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore and a master’s degree from Salisbury State University. Her academic achievements were a reflection of her commitment to excellence and lifelong learning.
Throughout her career, Florence was a beacon of compassion and dedication, serving in nutrition and dietary services. Her journey included significant contributions at Seaford Rehabilitation Center and Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Delaware. Florence culminated her professional life with 26 years of devoted service at CHEER, Inc. in Georgetown, Delaware, where she served as the Program Nutrition Director for Sussex County. Her work improved countless lives, and she was admired for her professionalism and heartfelt care.
A woman of deep faith, Florence found immense joy and solace in her church community. She was a proud member of the Mount Enoch kitchen ministry and was actively involved in various church activities. Her love for gospel music resonated through her every action, and she was a prayer warrior whose faith was unshakeable. Florence’s spiritual journey enriched her life and the lives of those around her.
Florence was a vibrant member of the community, engaging actively with the County Seat Cruisers and the Red Hatters Club. Through these organizations, she created enduring friendships and shared many joyful moments. Her "Forever Friends" were a cherished part of her life, and she maintained these connections with affection and dedication.
Family was Florence’s greatest treasure. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Benny Mason Sr., her sister and best friend, Minister Ruth Thomas, and her daughter, Arlene Mason. Despite these profound losses, Florence remained the steadfast matriarch of her family, providing strength, wisdom, and unconditional love. She was the proud grandmother of eight grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren, all of whom she supported with fervor, attending countless sporting events, school functions, and family celebrations.
Florence’s passing leaves a void in the lives of those who knew her, but her legacy of love and kindness will endure. Her family and friends will gather to celebrate her life on May 9, 2026, at Holloway Funeral Home, located at 501 Snow Hill Road. The service will commence at 9:30 a.m., a time for all to honor a life well-lived and a soul deeply loved.
