Florence Phyllis Holloway

May 17, 1936 — October 7, 2026

On Wednesday, October 7, 2026, Florence Phyllis Holloway, age 90, peacefully entered her heavenly home after an extended illness. Phyllis was born on May 17, 1936, in Colleton County, South Carolina, to the late Reverend Blanco and Hazel Kinsey Stevens. In 1954, she married the love of her life, Curtis Dale Holloway. Together they shared 52 wonderful years of marriage before his passing in 2009. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers: Robert Stevens, Samuel St. Clair Stevens, and K.M. (Donald) Stevens. Those left to cherish her memory are her sister Murdell Sandifer of Bamberg, along with her beloved children: Sherri Drolapas of Charleston, Vickie Faris (Bobby) of Paris, KY, Shirley Henderson of Charleston, Jennifer Kristy Holloway of Branchville, and Steven Holloway (Shirley Jean) of Branchville. Phyllis loved and cherished her four grandchildren: Justin Henderson (Chesna), Tanner Faris, Dr. Adriannah Liggitt (Kent), and Daniel Holloway (Tabatha) as well as five great-grandchildren: Patton, Cheyenne, Autumn, Sarah, and Madison. She spent many years providing care for her grandchildren and all of her grand furbabies. Phyllis loved singing and was a very active member of Edisto Baptist Church choir, as well as serving the church nursery for many years. She was a talented gardener, a savvy shopper, and a lover of mountain vacations. Her kindness, unwavering love for her family, and steadfast faith will be remembered by all who knew her. While her family mourns her passing, they find comfort in knowing she has been reunited with her beloved Curtis, and is resting in the presence of her Savior. The Celebration Service will be at 3:00p.m. on Sunday, October 18, at Edisto Baptist Church, 4831 Edisto River Road, Branchville, SC, with Reverend Daryle Hawthorne officiating. The family will receive condolences one hour prior to the service or on Saturday, October 17 at Phyllis’s residence. Expressions of sympathy may be made in the form of flowers or a memorial donation to Tunnel to Towers Foundation (in honor of Curtis Holloway), online at T2T.org or mailed to Tunnel to Towers, 2361 Hylan Blvd, Staten Island, NY 10306.

My Mother's Garden

My mother kept a garden, A garden of the heart, She planted all the good things, That gave my life its start. She turned me to the sunshine, And encouraged me to dream; Fostering and nurturing, The seeds of self-esteem. And when the winds and rain came, She protected me enough; But not too much because she knew, I'd need to stand up strong and tough. Her constant good example, Always taught me right from wrong; Markers for my pathway, That will last a lifetime long. I am my mother's garden, I am her legacy. And I hope today she feels the love, Reflected back from me. ~Author Unknown~
