Florence A. Messick
December 9, 1939 — June 4, 2026
It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for her life that we announce the passing of Florence A. Messick, known affectionately as "Floss," who departed this world peacefully on June 4, 2026, at her home after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on December 9, 1939, in Philadelphia, PA, she brought light and love into the lives of everyone she encountered.
Floss was the cherished daughter of John and Florence Boron, who predeceased her, along with her beloved son, David Funk. Her legacy of love and resilience is carried forward by her devoted husband, Earl Messick, who was her steadfast partner in an adventurous life filled with travel and cruising. Their journey together began on November 2, 2001, when they exchanged vows on the picturesque shores of Hilton Head Island, SC.
A proud graduate of Villa Joseph Marie High School in Newtown, PA, Floss embarked on a life that saw her successfully juggle a variety of roles—from dedicated mother to accomplished private secretary for numerous professionals. Her work ethic was matched only by her zest for life, as she navigated each chapter with grace and determination.
Floss was not only a devoted mother to her surviving children, daughter Patty Nelson and son Michael Funk, but also a doting grandmother to her two treasured grandchildren. She found immense joy in their lives, cherishing every moment and milestone.
An avid tennis enthusiast, Floss's competitive spirit shone brightly on the court. She was proud of her USTA 4.0 rating, leading her team to the USTA National Championship and qualifying for the Senior Olympics several times—a testament to her dedication and passion for the sport.
Floss had an extraordinary ability to connect with people, putting them at ease and making lifelong friends with her warm and welcoming nature. Her fun-loving spirit and constant pursuit of new adventures left an indelible mark on all who knew her.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Mirasol Health for their outstanding hospice care and support throughout Floss's journey, providing comfort and compassion in her final days.
In accordance with her wishes, a private funeral ceremony will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society, an organization that was close to Floss's heart.
As Floss embarks on her final journey, she leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and resilience—a life well-lived and a spirit that will forever inspire those who were blessed to know her.
