October 4, 1933 — July 1, 2026
It is with sad hearts and profound love that we announce the passing of Flint W. Reed, Jr., on July 1, 2026, at the age of 92. Born on October 4, 1933, in Bastrop, Louisiana, Flint's life was a canvas of vibrant stories, painted with passion and dedication, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew him.
Flint passed in the loving presence of family, after a painful battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Vivian and Flint W. Reed, Sr., and his two brothers, Tommy and Charles. Flint's legacy continues through his cherished wife of 56 years, Jill Reed, and their beloved children, Flint W. Reed the 3rd and Kim. His memory will also be lovingly carried forward by his grandchildren, Elliott, Ana, Joshua, and Westley.
In 1970, Flint married his sweetie, Jill, in Grenada, West Indies. Their shared love for travel and art led them to come back to Texas, and settle in Port Aransas in 1997, where they cultivated deep and lasting friendships. Flint's journey in art started in church, when his mom would hand him a pencil and paper and he'd draw his horse. After serving as a Navy pilot during the Korean conflict, he pursued his passion for painting at the School of Fine Arts in Spain under the famous master, Julio Moises, later earning a Masters in Fine Art from UCSC.
Flint was a painter whose work captured the essence and beauty of the world as he saw it. His artistic journey took him across Europe, Grenada, Canada, and the Americas. His life work is exhibited in collections around the world. His unique signature is even in the George Bush Library. Flint contributed regularly to the art community of the Rockport Art Center and the Port Aransas Art Center. He continues to be celebrated as a distinguished impressionist oil painter.
In 2006, Flint and Jill built their dream, the Mustang Island Art Gallery. His art, infused with a love for creation, will continue to inspire and bring joy to many.
Flint's presence was marked by a quick wit, warm smile, and a heart full of kindness. He was a gentleman who reveled in his wife's culinary talents and he cherished the company of friends, engaging in many deep conversations about life.
The family extends their gratitude to the community of Port Aransas and beyond, for their love and prayers during this time of remembrance. Flint's life will be commemorated privately, as per the family's wishes.
Flint W. Reed, Jr.'s legacy of love, art, and friendship will forever be cherished by those fortunate enough to have known him. His spirit lives on through his art, his family, and the memories he leaves behind.
