Fiorella departed this world as gracefully as she lived, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on October 27, 1929, in the eternal city of Rome, Italy, she was the cherished daughter of Federico and Assunta Tosti.
Fiorella's journey began in the vibrant streets of Rome, where she was raised alongside her beloved brother, Giorgio Tosti, who predeceased her. Her adventurous spirit led her across the Atlantic as a new bride, hand in hand with the love of her life, Samuel Kelley. Their union was a testament to unwavering devotion and mutual respect, spanning an extraordinary 66 years. Together, they cultivated a home filled with warmth, love, and the joyous laughter of their three children.
Fiorella’s intellectual pursuits were as boundless as her spirit. She graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts in Italian Literature from Queens College of the City University of New York. Her passion for Italian culture and literature enriched her life and those she touched, leading her to a prestigious career as Vice President of Radio at the RAI Italian Radio and Television. For 20 years, she championed Italian arts and culture, leaving an indelible mark on the broadcasting world.
Beyond her professional achievements, Fiorella was a cornerstone of her community. She served as President of the Oakwood Heights Neighborhood Association and was an active member of the Mount Vernon Democratic Committee, demonstrating her energetic and strong-willed nature. Her commitment to community service mirrored her dedication to her family and friends.
Fiorella had a zest for life that was felt by all who knew her. She found joy in gardening, cooking, knitting, and crocheting. Her creations were woven with love, much like the relationships she nurtured throughout her life. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and sister, leaving behind a legacy of love through her three children, their spouses, and her five adored grandchildren. Her sister, Adrianna Altieri, along with her sons, also survive her, carrying forth Fiorella's spirit and love.
