Fern Senff: A Life of Love, Laughter, and Resilience
Fern Senff, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on September 20, 2026, at a hospice house following a tragic fall from which she never recovered. Born on May 21, 1937, in Dowagiac, Michigan, Fern lived a life full of warmth, dedication, and joy that resonated with everyone she met.
Fern was predeceased by her cherished husband, Russell Senff, her brothers Larry and Michael Benson, and her son, Hank Sherk. She leaves behind a legacy of love through her surviving family: her devoted brother Robert Benson, her loving daughter Ellen Sherk, and her caring son Theodore Sherk. Fern was the proud grandmother to eight grandchildren and the adoring great-grandmother to six great-grandchildren, each of whom brought immense joy to her life.
In 1971, Fern married the love of her life, Russell Senff. Together, they nurtured a beautiful family, raising her three children from a previous marriage with boundless love and support. Her educational journey was marked by her graduation from the Michigan State School for the Blind in Lansing, Michigan, a testament to her perseverance and determination.
Fern dedicated 37 years of her professional life to the Yavapai-Apache Nation, where she served as a phone operator. Her voice became synonymous with Fort McDowell Casino, where her announcements brought a unique charm to the establishment.
A lifelong member of the Latter-day Saints Church, Fern's faith was a guiding light in her life. Her hobbies reflected her vibrant spirit and creativity. She found joy in crocheting granny square blankets, baking bread and cookies, square dancing, and singing. Fern also had a passion for bingo, and her joyful exclamation, "Sha-zam, go Suns BINGO!" when she won, will be fondly remembered by all who experienced her infectious enthusiasm.
Throughout her life, Fern embodied qualities of kindness, resilience, and an unwavering zest for life. Her legacy is one of compassion, laughter, and strength, touching the hearts of all who knew her.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of choice in Fern's memory, honoring her lifelong commitment to helping others and her community.
