April 26, 1938 — May 10, 2026
It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of our beloved Husband and Father.
Thomas Rush Harvie passed away peacefully on May 10, 2026.
Born on April 26, 1938, in the town of Kilwinning, Ayrshire, Scotland, he was a man of love, laughter, and dedication, who touched the lives of all who knew him.
The son of Joseph and Elizabeth Harvie, his journey was marked by a steadfast commitment to his family.
Thomas is Predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Elizabeth, two sisters Jean and Ester, two brothers William and Joseph, and his cherished grandson Adam Harvie, he leaves behind a legacy of strength and resilience.
Thomas Harvie was the loving husband of Janet (Janice Wylie) Harvie, his devoted partner for 65 beautiful years and was the love of his life. Their marriage, which began on November 12, 1960, was a testament to enduring love and partnership. Together, they built a life filled with love, joy, and unwavering support for one another.
A member of the Scottish Cameronians, he served his country with honor as a division of the British Army. This sense of duty and discipline carried over into his professional life, where he excelled as a tradesman and was a sheet metal worker and planning engineer.
He was also a proud member of the Scottish Masons where he received his apron with the Mother Lodge No. 1 .
In 1968, driven by a desire to provide greater opportunities for his family, together with his beloved wife Janice, he courageously relocated them to America, bringing with him their dreams and two young children.
He was a member of The Sheet Metal Workers Union Local 63. He was a foreman with Morris Roofing of Springfield, MA where he happily retired from in 2000.
His passion for sports, especially the Boston Bruins, was infectious. Whether he was cheering on his Glasgow Rangers football team or attending annual horse races in Saratoga, or watching the Kentucky Derby, his enthusiasm never waned. Later in life, golf became a hobby but his greatest joy was found at home tending to his yard, garden and pool, being outside soaking up the sun and being surrounded by his family. He loved watching his Westerns and old Black and White movies!
Toms bright blue eyes, sparkling with humor, were a window to his soul—a soul that delighted in a good joke, a pint of Guinness, and the spontaneous joy of song that sometimes broke into dance. His legacy lives on in the lives of his children: Anthony Joseph Harvie and Rose Weller of Ware, MA, Caroline Elizabeth (Harvie) Bielefield and husband Daniel Bielefield of Colebrook, CT, Thomas Rush Harvie, Jr. and husband Jorge (Koki) Burgos of New York and Angela Janice Harvie and partner Matt Gosztyla of Quincy, MA. He also leaves behind his beloved granddaughter Alysha Harvie of NC, and many loved nieces and nephews, honorary grandsons Chase Downing and Cooper Colcombe. And his wee son and dog Quincy.
His life will be celebrated on Saturday May 16, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Tylunas Funeral Home. In honoring his memory, the family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff at Wing Memorial Hospital for their care and compassion.
