Evila Lopez
August 25, 1943 — March 13, 2026
It is with heavy hearts and profound love that we announce the passing of Evila "Vila" Lopez, who departed this world on March 13, 2026, surrounded by her cherished family amidst the serene beauty of the mountains in Ruidoso, New Mexico. Born on August 25, 1943, in the close-knit community of Beeville, Texas, Vila lived a life that was a testament to love, dedication, and selfless service.
Vila was the beloved daughter of the late Richard and Beatrice Garcia, who instilled in her the values of compassion and hard work. Her life was enriched by her marriage to Nick Lopez, her devoted husband of 62 extraordinary years. Together, they built a family that was the center of Vila's world, and her legacy is carried on by her children and their spouses: Lisa and Benjamin Morales, David and Eva Lopez, and Chris Lopez. She was the proud grandmother of seven and the great-grandmother of twelve, with grandchildren Ashley and Kyle Johnson, Brandi Aguirre, and Joni and Sean Rankin, Ezekiel Morales, Damian & Veronica Lopez, Steven Lopez, and Henry Lopez, who will forever hold her memory close.
Vila's life was one of service and dedication. For 47 years, she worked with Lamesa ISD, where her role as The Migrant Coordinator was not merely a job but a calling. She poured her heart and soul into ensuring that every child and family she encountered had the tools and support they needed to thrive. Her passion for education and community service was a beacon of hope for many.
In addition to her educational work, Vila owned D & C Trucking and was an accomplished home interior decorator. Her creativity and business acumen were matched only by her kindness and generosity. Her work as a secretary and active member of River of Life Church was another facet of her unwavering commitment to the community she loved deeply. Vila also found joy and fellowship as a member of River Crossing Ministries in Ruidoso, NM.
Evila Lopez was a woman of remarkable character. Her heart of gold and boundless love for family and friends made her a role model and mentor to many. She was always ready with a helping hand, a listening ear, and a warm smile. Her love extended to her furry companions, who brought joy to her life.
Vila was predeceased by her parents, her husband Nick, her sister Viola Mojica, her brothers Johnny and Eddie Garcia, her nephews Ray and Arthur Mojica, and her grandson Joseph Morales. Though they have passed, their spirits live on in the hearts of those who loved them.
A celebration of Evila's life will take place on April 11, 2026, at 11:00 AM at River of Life Church, located at 401 S. Dallas Street, Lamesa, TX 79331. Her family extends a heartfelt invitation to all who knew her to join in honoring her life and legacy.
As we say goodbye to Vila, we take solace in the message she leaves behind: "Forever in our Hearts." Her legacy of love, kindness, and service will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her.
