Evelyn O’Neil

July 26, 1931 — March 15, 2026

Evelyn O’Neil, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 15, 2026, at the age of 94. Born on July 26, 1931, in the charming town of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, Evelyn was the cherished daughter of Herman and Minnie Meister. Her life was a testament to love, service, and unwavering commitment to her family and community. Evelyn spent her early years in Sturgeon Bay, where she cultivated a deep love for learning and teaching. After graduating from Normal School in 1951, she pursued her passion for education, eventually earning a Master’s Degree in Reading in 1973. Evelyn began her teaching career in the quaint community of Sugar Bush before dedicating many years to the Neenah public schools, where she inspired countless young minds until her retirement in 1987. On August 9, 1958, Evelyn married the love of her life, Vernon O’Neil. Their marriage was a beautiful partnership that spanned decades, marked by mutual respect and deep affection. Together, they raised three wonderful children: Cindy Fahrenkrug, Linda (Bruce) Oines, and Paddy (Teresa) O’Neil, who were the pride and joy of Evelyn’s life. Evelyn’s love extended far beyond her immediate family. She was the proud grandmother of Brendan and Ryan Fahrenkrug, and her heart swelled with happiness as she welcomed three great-granddaughters into the world. Evelyn’s family was her greatest treasure, and she was known for creating a warm and welcoming home where everyone felt cherished and loved. A dedicated member of her church and community, Evelyn’s faith was a guiding light throughout her life. She was an active participant in the Birchwood Methodist Church and later the Peoria AZ Church. Her melodic voice graced the Fox Valley Chorus and the Rice Lake Chorus of Sweet Adelines, where she shared her love of music with many. Evelyn was a creative soul, finding joy in crafting, knitting, and cross-stitch. Her home was a testament to her artistic talents, especially during the Christmas season, when her decorations transformed her space into a winter wonderland, delighting all who visited. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Minnie Meister; her sister, Angelus Robinson; her beloved husband, Vernon O’Neil; and her son-in-law, David Fahrenkrug. She leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness that will be carried forward by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, her nieces Pat Robinson and Karen Leist, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. A service to celebrate Evelyn’s remarkable life will be held on May 15, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Birchwood United Methodist Church, located at 103 E Balsam Ave, Birchwood, WI 54817. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of a life beautifully lived and to honor a woman who touched so many with her warmth and grace. Evelyn O’Neil’s memory will forever be cherished by those who loved her. Her life was a living testament to kindness, dedication, and the power of love, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew her.
