In Loving Memory of Evelyn Lourine Foley
It is with heavy hearts and deep respect that we commemorate the life of Evelyn Lourine Foley, who passed away peacefully after a brief hospital stay on May 21, 2026, at the age of 79. Born on August 16, 1946, in Kansas City, Missouri, Evelyn was a beacon of warmth and love, whose vibrant spirit touched everyone she encountered.
Evelyn was the cherished daughter of Oscar and Audrey Robertson, and grew up in a household filled with love and laughter. She was a proud graduate of Baxter Springs High School, class of 1964, where she began to foster the friendships and community that would accompany her throughout her life.
In 1965, Evelyn married Charles (Doc) Foley on November 20th in Baxter Springs, Kansas. Together, they built a beautiful family, welcoming two children, Erin and Nick. Though their marriage eventually ended, Evelyn and Charles remained the dearest of friends until his passing in 2009.
Evelyn's career was a testament to her dedication and versatility. She worked at Consolidated Supply Co. in Treece, Kansas, and later as a nurse's aide at Baxter Memorial Hospital, where her compassionate nature was evident in her care for patients. She eventually became the secretary and co-owner of Foley Trucking Co. in Baxter Springs, Kansas, until her retirement in the late 1990s, leaving behind a legacy of professionalism and hard work.
A woman of deep faith, Evelyn was an active member of the Central Christian Center in Joplin, Missouri. Even when her health prevented her from attending in person, she faithfully watched the services on television, finding comfort and strength in her spiritual community.
Evelyn's life was a tapestry of cherished moments with family and friends. She found immense joy in cooking large meals for family gatherings, turning every holiday into a festive occasion with her elaborate decorations. Her love for the Chiefs and Jayhawks added a touch of entertainment to her days, but her greatest joy was the time spent with her family and her beloved cat, Cissie, who never left her side.
Known for her ability to engage in conversations with anyone, Evelyn never met a stranger. Her warmth and genuine interest in others allowed her to form connections that transcended the boundaries of acquaintance, making everyone feel like family.
Evelyn is survived by her daughter Erin Busby, son Nick Foley (Felix), grandsons Richard Foley (Brittany) and Charles Cassell (Cheyenne), granddaughter Ashley Lake, fourteen great-grandchildren, and a constellation of cousins and friends who will forever cherish her memory. She was predeceased by her parents, sister Ruth Ann Schlink, great-granddaughter Audrey Smith, and her former husband Charles (Doc) Foley.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to everyone who enriched Evelyn's life and meant so much to her. In accordance with her wishes, a private ceremony will be held to honor her life and legacy.
