It is with both profound sadness and loving remembrance that we announce the peaceful passing of Evelyn Lorraine Bonwell, a cherished mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who left this world on March 1, 2026, just shy of her 97th birthday. Evelyn was born on March 12, 1929, in Washington, the beloved daughter of John and Mabel Scheda. Her departure leaves a profound void in the lives of all who were touched by her warmth, kindness, and unwavering love. Evelyn's journey was marked by an enduring love story with her husband, Francis Edward “Ed” Bonwell, whom she married on November 6, 1947, in Issaquah, Washington. Together, they built a life filled with love and joy, raising five wonderful children over their 67 years of marriage. Evelyn's devotion to her family was the cornerstone of her life, and her legacy continues through her surviving children: Sally and her husband Kenneth Knowle, Sharon and her husband Gary Galvin, James and his wife Julie Bonwell, and Susan and her husband Walt Scott. Her memory will also be cherished by her sisters Eleanor and Nancy, her grandchildren Heather, Marisa, Karrah, Brandon, Holly, Katie, Zach, Chase, and Ashley, and her great-grandchildren Jacob, Damian, Miranda, Shay (Savannah), Adriana, Evelyn, Pollux, Atticus, and Max. In addition to her immediate family, Evelyn is survived by a large extended family and many dear friends who will forever hold her close in their hearts. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mabel, her beloved husband Ed, her son Francis Edward Bonwell Jr., and her siblings. While we mourn the loss of her earthly presence, we find solace in knowing she is reunited with those she loved dearly. A dedicated homemaker, Evelyn created a nurturing environment where her family could thrive. Her love was a constant beacon, and she was renowned for her unconditional affection, her infectious laughter, and her welcoming smile. Evelyn had a remarkable ability to ensure everyone around her felt fed, happy, and loved. Beyond her devotion to family, Evelyn found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She was an avid gardener who delighted in the beauty of flowers, and she found profound peace in the melodies of music and the written word. Her home was always filled with the sounds of cheerful birds, especially her beloved hummingbirds, which seemed to reflect her own lively spirit. As we remember Evelyn, we are reminded of the love she so freely gave and the many lives she touched with her kindness. Her family wishes to express their gratitude for the love and support of all who knew her. In their words: “Forever in our hearts, you won’t be forgotten. We love you very much Grandma, Mom, Sister, Friend, Evelyn. We look forward to seeing you again.” In honoring Evelyn’s life, let us celebrate the joy she brought to the world and the love she leaves behind. Her memory will forever be a source of comfort and inspiration to us all.
