Evelyn "Evie" Stimson Johnson
September 30, 1947 — September 10, 2026
Evelyn "Evie" Stimson Johnson, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, peacefully departed this world on September 10, 2026, at the age of 78, following a courageous battle with Parkinson's Disease. Born on September 30, 1947, in Bad Reichenhall, Bavaria, Germany, Evie was the cherished daughter of Charles Richard Stimson, a dedicated serviceman in the U.S. Army, and Christine Louise Schaede, a proud German national. Before her father's discharge from the Army in Dec. 1948, Evie and her mother made the trip back to America from Germany on a transport boat across the Atlantic with other German War Brides and Children. Upon arrival a random photo was taken of the woman and children that would years later become the front and back cover of the book - War Brides of World War II. Evie and her mother are pictured on the back cover of that book.
Evie's life was a testament to love, resilience, and joy. She was predeceased by her devoted parents, her younger brother Steve Stimson, and her beloved husband, Donald E. Johnson. Evie and Don shared a remarkable journey, marrying on March 3, 1990, in Caledonia, New York. Together, they spent 39 wonderful years, creating a blended family and nurturing a home filled with laughter, love, and special memories.
Evie is survived by her loving children: Angie (Jim) Greenaker, Kevin Smith, Sean (Sarah) Johnson, Kristin (Doug Watson) Johnson, and Shannon Johnson. She was a proud grandmother to seven adoring grandchildren: Josh (Stephanie) Greenaker, Tori (Dakota) Spink, Hollie (Hunter Crick) Johnson, Kylie, Allegra, Briar Johnson, and Nora Watson. Her legacy continues through her four cherished great-grandchildren: Paisley & Theo Greenaker and Caroleena & Jason Spink. Evie's family also includes her special nephew, Justin (Bobby) Stimson, and his daughter, Evie Mae Stimson, who brought her immense joy.
In her professional life, Evie was a dedicated and respected member of the banking community, working for 25 years at the Bank of Castile in Caledonia, NY. Starting as a part-time teller, Evie's determination and integrity propelled her to the position of Branch Manager, a role from which she retired in 2009.
Evie was a woman of many passions, with a particular love for gardening. Her flower beds were a testament to her devotion, and she delighted in the return of hummingbirds each summer. She found comfort in the appearance of cardinals, which she believed were visits from loved ones who had passed. Christmas was her favorite holiday, and her beautifully decorated trees were renowned. Perhaps most memorable were her "singing" birthday grams, where she would anonymously serenade loved ones, leaving them with a smile.
A memorial service to celebrate Evie's life will be held on September 19, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Reach Community Church, located at 5824 Route 19A, Castile, NY 14427. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation in support of Parkinson's research.
Evie's family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate caregivers at Eastside Nursing Home in Warsaw, NY, who provided loving care and made Evie feel like family during her final years, especially during her time in hospice care.
Evie's spirit, kindness, and love will forever be remembered by all who were fortunate to know her. She leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories.
