May 19, 1953 — April 2, 2026

In loving memory of Evelyn Denise Bowers-King, a cherished soul who graced this world on May 19, 1953, in the vibrant city of Detroit, Michigan. Evelyn peacefully departed this life on April 2, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by the love of her family and friends. Evelyn was the beloved daughter of the late AW Bowers and Marie (Peeples) Bowers, and stepdaughter to the late Rosie Lee (Boston) Bowers. Her legacy is carried forward by her four devoted children: Myel Bowers Smith of Ellenwood, GA; Angela Bowers-Thomas (Torrone) of Newnan, GA; Gregory Bowers (Kamilah) of Columbia, MD; and Shalanda Bowers of Stone Mountain, GA. She is also survived by her loving sister, Sheila Bowers of Atlanta, GA, her seven adoring grandchildren – Derek Clayton, Matthew Bowers, August Bowers, Charlie Smith IV, Jayla Gray, Zyanya Bowers, and Charles Watson Jr. – and her great-grandson, Khepri Clayton. Evelyn’s family extends beyond these, with a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and lifelong friends who were touched by her kindness and warmth. Evelyn's early years were spent in Detroit, where she graduated from Southwestern High School in 1971. She pursued her passion for business by attending the Detroit Business Institute, studying business administration. Her professional journey was marked by her unwavering dedication to customer service. Evelyn built a distinguished career with BP, Amoco, and various restaurant establishments, where her commitment to serving others and creating positive experiences left a lasting impact on both colleagues and customers alike. A woman of deep faith, Evelyn dedicated her life to Christ from a young age at Morelight Missionary Baptist Church in Ecorse, MI. Her spiritual journey continued as she joined Salem Bible Church in Atlanta and Simmon Grove Baptist Church in Omega, GA. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, guiding her through life's challenges with resilience and grace. Evelyn found joy in the simple pleasures of life. A proud Detroit native, she carried a deep love for her hometown and its rich Motown soundtracks, which often filled her home with joy. She was a gifted cook and baker, always ready to share a meal with loved ones, infusing warmth and care into every dish. Evelyn also loved to entertain, hosting gatherings that brought people together in laughter and celebration, creating memories that would last a lifetime. Known for her sharp wit and candid nature, Evelyn possessed a resilience that inspired all who knew her. She delighted in preserving memories, whether through photographs, handwritten letters, or holiday cards, ensuring her love and thoughtfulness were felt by those she cherished. A service to honor and celebrate Evelyn’s life will be held on May 30, 2026, at 4:00 PM at the Willie Watkins Event Center, located at 5843 Redan Road, Stone Mountain, GA 30088. Family and friends are invited to gather, share memories, and celebrate the remarkable life of a woman who gave so much to so many. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Emory University Hospital and Wellstar Cobb for the care and compassion shown to Evelyn. We also sincerely thank every person who offered support through cards, kind words, prayers, and thoughtful gestures as we honor and remember our beloved Evelyn Bowers-King. May Evelyn’s spirit continue to inspire those she leaves behind, and may her memory be a blessing to all who had the privilege of knowing her.
