May 13, 1930 – May 14, 2026 It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished friend, Evelyn Burns. Evelyn peacefully departed this life on May 14, 2026, just a day after celebrating her 96th birthday, surrounded by her loving family. Her radiant spirit and gentle strength left an indelible mark on everyone she met. Evelyn was born on May 13, 1930, in Minneapolis, MN, to James Zima and Claribel Bobendrier. As the eldest daughter, she embodied a sense of responsibility and compassion from an early age, traits that would define her life and legacy. She was predeceased by her devoted parents, her beloved sister Margaret Jensen and brother-in-law William Jensen, her cherished son Jack Burns, grandson Jacob Burns, and son-in-law Jon Nester. She also shared a special bond with Pete Burns, the father of her children. Her life was a testament to love and resilience. Evelyn was a nurturing and dedicated mother to her six wonderful children: Sherry Nester, Susan Nauha, Lisa Schulze, Steve Burns, Thomas Burns, and her late son Jack Burns. She extended her love to her daughters-in-law Mary Colson-Burns and Jaynelle Burns, and son-in-law Chris Nauha. Evelyn's heart overflowed with pride for her 16 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, who fondly called her Grandma Evie. They were the light of her life, and she cherished every moment spent with them. Her legacy will live on through their shared stories and cherished memories. In her later years, Evelyn found a loving companion in her partner, Donald Timmers. Together, they shared 12 wonderful years filled with laughter and companionship after meeting at Village Shores, a community that became a second family to her. Evelyn's dear friend, Nancy Wright, was also a treasured presence in her life. A woman of remarkable strength and determination, Evelyn rejoined the workforce after raising her children, becoming a valued supervisor at Det Tronics. Her colleagues admired her leadership and dedication. Evelyn's faith was a cornerstone of her life; she was a devoted member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in south Minneapolis. Her commitment to community service was evident through her volunteer work with numerous organizations, including St. Stephen's Homeless Center. Her compassion and selflessness touched countless lives. Evelyn's joy for life was evident in her many hobbies and interests. She delighted in participating in activities at Village Shores and found great joy in the simple pleasures of family gatherings and time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A celebration of Evelyn’s life will be held at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, located at 4537 3rd Ave. So., Minneapolis, MN 55419. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to St. Joan Of Arc Outreach to continue Evelyn's legacy of giving and support. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at Brighton Hospice & Village Shores for their exceptional care and unwavering support. A special thank you to Cindy, Eric, Angel, and Britania for their kindness and dedication during Evelyn's final days. Evelyn Burns was a beacon of love and kindness, a matriarch whose life was a testament to the power of family, faith, and community. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. She will be dearly missed but fondly remembered. May she rest in eternal peace.
