December 29, 1933 — October 21, 2026

Evelyn Baker, a beacon of strength and love, passed away peacefully on October 21, 2026, at the Denton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born on December 29, 1933, in Baltimore, Maryland, Evelyn was the youngest of five siblings in the Drehoff family. Her life was a testament to resilience, kindness, and a deep commitment to her family and community. Throughout her life, Evelyn exemplified the qualities of a true leader. As a young woman, she served as the president of the sodality and was a familiar face at St. Jerome's, organizing bingo nights and community events with enthusiasm and joy. Her energy was infectious, her spirit unyielding, and her dedication to those around her unwavering. Evelyn married Martin Baker in 1950, sharing 35 years of marriage that brought five wonderful children into the world: Martin Jr., Michael, Ronald, Christine, and Theresa. Her love for her family was boundless, and she was a fantastic mother who instilled values of compassion and courage in her children. Evelyn was also blessed with seven grandchildren—Carolyn, Christopher, Ryan, Erin, Kalie, Cortney, and Robert—and 14 great-grandchildren who were the light of her life and the pride of her heart. Professionally, Evelyn devoted her career to serving others, creating a legacy of friendship and care that touched countless lives. Her work ethic and genuine interest in people made her a beloved figure in her community, where she spent her last years in the welcoming environment of the Hyde Park Development. Evelyn's life was not without its challenges. She faced her health battles with lung and heart disease with remarkable bravery, demonstrating the same strength that defined her character throughout her life. Even in the face of adversity, she remained a source of joy and inspiration to those lucky enough to know her. Evelyn is predeceased by her parents and siblings Donald and Russell Drehoff. She leaves behind a family who will forever cherish her memory and strive to live by the values she held dear. In honor of Evelyn's life and the struggles she faced, the family kindly suggests that donations be made to the American Lung Association in her memory. Her legacy will continue to inspire those who knew her, and her spirit will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
