In Loving Memory

Evangelical ‘Eva’ Reyes-Santiago
September 21, 1928 — September 15, 2026
Evangelical Santiago, born on September 21, 1928, in the vibrant city of Ponce, Puerto Rico, departed this world on September 15, 2026, surrounded by the warmth of family and in the peacefulness of sleep. Her life was a profound journey marked by resilience, love, and unwavering devotion to her family.
Born to Juan and Benhinia Santiago, Evangelical's early years in Puerto Rico were filled with challenges. In 1951, seeking a fresh start and freedom from a difficult past, she bravely left her homeland and embarked on a new life in America. Her journey brought her to the bustling streets of the Bronx, New York, where she met her first love, Esteban Millan. Together, they built a family and had four children, with Margarite Luciano being their firstborn.
Evangelical's life was one of perseverance and strength. Despite facing hardships, including another challenging relationship, she found solace and joy in her later years. Her second marriage brought her happiness and stability, as her love thrived and blossomed. Her legacy of resilience continued as she devoted herself to providing for her family, even as life's hurdles tested her spirit.
Though she did not have formal education, Evangelical possessed invaluable skills as a homemaker. Her culinary talents ensured that no family gathering was ever short of love, laughter, and full bellies. She embraced her new world in America, learning English while cherishing her Puerto Rican roots, with a heart that spoke volumes in any language.
Evangelical cherished simple joys and community connections. An avid lottery player, she found delight in the thrill of possibility. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, and she was a beloved member of her church community, often seen with a radiant smile at Sunday services. Her visits to the beauty salon were cherished rituals, where she enjoyed moments of pampering and camaraderie.
Her family was her greatest pride. Evangelical is survived by her three children: Margarite Luciano, Sadie Agulier, and Esteban Millan. She leaves behind a legacy of love through her five grandchildren—Luis Luciano, Lise Luciano, Ray Zapata, Samantha Zapata, and Manuel Nieve—and four great-grandchildren, who will carry her memory forward.
In her final years, Evangelical moved to Georgia for a more serene pace of life, surrounded by family who cherished her deeply. Though she battled dementia, she remained a beacon of love and warmth, cared for with the devotion she had always shown to others.
As per her wishes, Evangelical's ashes will be lovingly spread in Ponce, reuniting her with her beloved husband, where their spirits can dance together once more. A private funeral ceremony will be held to honor her life.
