It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Evan Lawlis, a cherished husband, brother, veteran, and friend, who departed this world on June 16, 2026, at the age of 67, in the warmth of his beloved Lumberport, West Virginia. Born on January 2, 1959, in the same close-knit community, Evan's life was a testament to devotion, service, and love for those around him. Evan was the beloved son of Raymond and Delma Lawlis, who instilled in him the values of kindness and dedication that he carried throughout his life. He was preceded in death by his brother Kevin, sister Susan, and brother Ray, all of whom held a special place in his heart and now embrace him in the hereafter. Evan's journey of service began with his honorable commitment to the United States Army, where he served with distinction from 1978 to 1982. His time in the military was marked by courage, camaraderie, and an unwavering dedication to his country, leaving an indelible mark on all who served alongside him. Evan is survived by his devoted wife of 37 years, Cheryl, who was his steadfast partner in life and love. Their marriage was a beautiful testament to mutual support and shared dreams. His sister Susan and brother Larry remain to carry forward his legacy of warmth and generosity. Those who knew Evan remember him as a man with a gentle spirit and a heart as vast as the West Virginia hills. His contributions to the community and his family were boundless, and his sense of humor and kindness left a lasting impression on everyone he met. The Lawlis family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated nurses at Mercy Hospital and the staff at New Life Hospice for their exceptional care and support during Evan's time of need. As they express, "Always in our hearts," Evan’s memory will forever be cherished by all who were fortunate to know him.
