Eugene Smith

Eugene Steward, affectionately known as "Gene," was born on July 15, 1969, in Arlington, Texas, and peacefully passed away in the hospital after a critical illness. His life, filled with laughter, love, and dedication, touched the hearts of many who knew him. Eugene was the beloved son of Maxine and the late Eugene Stewart Senior. He grew up in a home filled with faith and community spirit, nurtured by his father's leadership as pastor of Saint Paul Missionary Baptist Church. His father’s influence left an indelible mark on Eugene, who accepted Christ at an early age and was later blessed to be passed the torch by his father at the church, a testament to his deep faith and commitment to his community. A proud alumnus of Dunbar High School, Eugene graduated with the class of 1987. His passion for football was evident throughout his high school and college years, playing for both Texas Southern University and Langston University. His love for the game stayed with him, and he was often found cheering for his favorite teams, sharing that enthusiasm with family and friends. Eugene was a man with a generous heart, known for his humor and ability to bring smiles to everyone around him. His jokes and laughter were infectious, and he took great joy in making others happy. His family was his pride and joy, and he was a devoted father to his daughter, Lachelle Stewart, and a cherished sister Kimberly Smith and brother Greg Stewart. The joy of becoming a grandfather to his precious grandchild was one of the highlights of his life. Eugene’s spiritual journey and devotion to his faith were central to his life. As a dedicated member of Saint Paul Missionary Baptist Church, he contributed to the church’s mission and fellowship, continuing the legacy of his father. Services to honor Eugene’s life will be held on October 3, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Saint Paul Missionary Baptist Church, located in Fort Worth, TX 76119.
