Eugene “Gene” Duane Swindale

Eugene “Gene” Duane Swindale, a cherished father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully with family by his side at The University of Kansas Hospital, in Kansas City on August 31, 2026, at the age of 58. Born on May 27, 1968, in Holton, Kansas, Gene lived a life marked by service, dedication, and love. Gene was the beloved son of the late Duane and Sue Swindale. He was predeceased by his cherished wife, Anne Marie, and their dear son and stepson, Gary. His heart was never quite the same after Anne's passing. In their memory, Gene remained a devoted father and grandfather, always putting family first. Married to Anne Marie Salchow on May 3, 2014, Gene found joy in making their home a welcoming haven. Anne often remarked that Gene made a good housewife, a testament to his love for gardening and maintaining their home. Their shared laughter and his playful jokes were a hallmark of their loving relationship. Gene proudly served in the United States Marines, attaining the rank of Sergeant. His career as an aviation electrician in the Marine Corps was followed by 29 years as an electronics technician for post office contractors and 16 years as a maintenance technician at various Kansas City area hospitals. His commitment to his work was unwavering, and he was highly respected by colleagues and friends alike. A member of VFW Philip Billard Post #1650 and the American Legion, Topeka. Gene valued the camaraderie and support of his fellow veterans. His dedication to service extended beyond his military career, as he was known for his kindness and willingness to help others. Gene is survived by his loving daughters, Samantha Swindale (Kat) Wichita, KS and Elizabeth Reeveles (Jayro) Holton, KS, and his dear sisters, Tammy Sizemore (Eddie) Hattiesburg, NC and Betty Strader (Jimmy) Holton, KS. He was the proud grandfather of seven grandchildren, who brought immense joy to his life. In his memory, the family requests that any donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, an organization close to Gene's heart. Gene was cremated at his request, and his ashes will be laid to rest next to his beloved wife, Anne. A private family service will be held at a later date, honoring Gene's wishes for an intimate farewell. Gene's legacy of love, laughter, and service will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered for the warmth and kindness he shared with the world.
