August 22, 1955 — June 14, 2026

It is with profound sadness and heartfelt gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Eugene "Gene" Chambers, who departed this world on June 14, 2026, at the age of 70. Gene passed away peacefully at his home in Roanoke, Virginia, surrounded by the melodies and music he cherished deeply, in the company of his beloved family. Born on August 22, 1955, in Roanoke, Virginia, Gene was the cherished son of Beaulah, whom he lovingly called "mother," and the late John Chambers. From an early age, Gene embraced the values of hard work and service, embarking on a life journey that would touch the hearts and souls of countless individuals. In 1982, Gene married the love of his life, Ellen Sandra Mayo, in Roanoke, beginning a beautiful partnership that spanned 45 remarkable years. Together, they raised three extraordinary daughters—Sonya, Rhonda, and Krystal—instilling in them the values of love, integrity, and resilience. Gene's heart swelled with pride as he watched his family grow to include his cherished grandchildren: Elijah, Sydni, Jerel II, Skylar, Jadyn, Jase, Jerrah, Xander, and Alaina. Gene's life was a symphony of dedication and passion, resonating with the harmonious blend of music and craftsmanship. Music was his true language, and he expressed his soul through the strum of his guitar, the melody of his keyboard, and the rhythm of his drums. His home studio was a sanctuary where he created, shared, and celebrated the universal language of music with all who would listen. Gene’s commitment to service began with his honorable enlistment in the United States Air Force, where he served his country with distinction. The discipline and integrity he honed during his military service became the cornerstone of his life’s work. Upon returning to civilian life, Gene discovered his true vocation in working with his hands, becoming a master of many trades. Whether as a skilled carpenter, a talented electrician, or a master handyman, Gene approached every task with the same meticulous care and pride. He built not only structures but also enduring relationships, leaving a legacy of respect and admiration among those who knew him. Gene was a beacon of generosity, always the first to offer a helping hand or a kind word, whether to a neighbor, a friend, or a stranger. His life was a testament to the power of kindness and the joy found in service to others. A celebration of Gene’s life will be held on June 26, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at High Street Baptist Church, located at 2302 Florida Ave NW, Roanoke, VA 24017. For those unable to attend in person, a livestream of the service will be available at @SerenityFuneralHomeLive. The family extends their deepest gratitude to the compassionate staff at Serenity Funeral Home for their professional guidance and care. Special thanks are also extended to the leadership and congregation of High Street Baptist Church and Kingdom Life Ministries International for their spiritual support, prayers, and acts of kindness during this difficult time. In honoring Gene’s memory, let us celebrate his life by embracing the music, love, and craftsmanship that defined him. His legacy lives on in the hearts of those he touched, forever resonating with the rhythm of a life lived to its fullest.
