Eugene was the cherished son of the late Willie Lee Borner Sr. and Della Mae Lois Borner. He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Steven Lashon Bates, his father, Willie Borner Sr., and his siblings, Willie Lee Borner Jr., Nathaniel Borner, Mark Borner, and Yolanda Borner. Despite these profound losses, Eugene's spirit remained unbreakable, and he continued to be a pillar of strength for those around him. Eugene's life was a testament to the power of love and community. He is survived by his devoted wife, Charlene Borner, who was his steadfast companion and partner in all things. Together, they built a family filled with warmth and laughter. Eugene was the proud father of Rya Logan and Gina Borner, and the cherished father figure to his special goddaughter Kearra Thomas and son Cornelius "Tom Tom" Bates. His legacy lives on in the hearts of his six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, who brought endless joy and pride to his life. Eugene was also a beloved brother to Victoria Borner, Shirley Cotton (Frank), and Mae Lois Button Kurkendal. His family extended beyond blood ties, as Eugene embraced a host of bonus children, siblings, and friends, each of whom he loved dearly and unconditionally.
