Ethel Mae Lewis

Ethel Mae Lewis, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully at home on August 19, 2026. Born on March 15, 1934, in Welder, Texas, Ethel was the cherished daughter of Joe and Irona Gentry. Her life was a testament to love, resilience, and unwavering faith. Ethel dedicated her life to caring for others, both in her professional and personal life. She found her calling as a certified nurse at Merced County Hospital, where she spent many years providing compassionate care to those in need. Her nurturing spirit and dedication to her patients left an indelible mark on all who knew her. Her commitment to her faith was profound, as evidenced by her active membership in the Jehovah's Witness Organization for over 40 years. Ethel's faith community played an integral role in her life, offering her strength, comfort, and a deep sense of belonging. Ethel was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Irona Gentry, her husbands, Ed Lewis Sr. and Moses Brown, her sons, Bryan Lewis and Little Al, her daughters, Sharon and Elaine Lewis, her sister Dorthy, and her brother Bill. She is survived by her loving children: daughters Marie Harper and Chantal Lewis, and sons Edward Lewis Jr. and James Lewis. Ethel also leaves behind her dear sister, Ellorise Harp, as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom she adored and cherished. Ethel's life was enriched by the love she shared with her family and friends. Her marriage to Edward Lewis Sr., the father of her children, and later to Moses Brown, were central to her life's journey, providing her with a firm foundation of love and partnership. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all who traveled from afar, as well as her friends from the Kingdom Hall, for their continued support during this difficult time. Their presence and prayers have been a source of great comfort. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to a charity of your choice, in honor of Ethel's generous spirit and dedication to helping others. Ethel Mae Lewis will be remembered for her kindness, her unwavering faith, and her deep love for her family. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of those she touched, a testament to a life well-lived.
