Ethel Louise Sykes

It is with profound sadness and enduring love that we announce the passing of Ethel Louise Sykes, a cherished mother, sister, grandmother, and friend, who left us on August 17, 2026. Ethel was born on February 6, 1947, in the vibrant city of Detroit, Michigan, to her loving parents, Bernice and Joe Lee Sykes, who now welcome her into eternal rest. Ethel's life was a testament to resilience, kindness, and unwavering devotion to her family. She carried the lessons and values instilled by her parents throughout her life, nurturing and guiding those around her with grace and wisdom. Her spirit touched everyone she met, leaving an indelible mark of warmth and compassion. A devoted mother, Ethel leaves behind four beloved children who cherish her memory: Treaya (O'Neal) Kohlheim, Marquitta (Eric) Cooperwood, Sherelle (Rafael) Richardson, and Felicia Crayton, all residing in Tupelo, Mississippi. Her legacy lives on through her 14 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, who brought immense joy and pride to her life. Ethel is also survived by her seven siblings, each of whom held a special place in her heart: Forestine (Robert Ear) Alexander of Detroit, MI; Willie James (Harolene) Sykes of Phoenix, AZ; O.V. (Dorothy) Sykes of Mt. Clemons, MI; Ronald (Regina) Sykes of Palmetto, MS; Mary Mitchell of Tupelo, MS; and Ricky Sykes of Los Angeles, CA. Her extended family, including a host of nieces, nephews, and relatives, mourn her loss and celebrate her enduring legacy. A celebration of Ethel's life will be held on August 30, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Kimble Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, located at 3215 Walsh Road, Belden, Mississippi. Family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by Ethel are invited to join in remembering her life and legacy. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Ethel's memory to a charity of your choice, as a tribute to her generous spirit and commitment to helping others.
