Ethel L Weldon
June 6, 1947 — May 26, 2026
Ethel L. Weldon, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 26, 2026, at the age of 78. Born on June 6, 1947, in St. Louis, Missouri, Ethel was a beacon of love and truth in the lives of many. Her journey began with her devoted parents, Harveston and IQ Weldon, who instilled in her values of compassion and integrity that she carried throughout her life.
Ethel was predeceased by her cherished parents, her sisters Barbara Jean, Jeweldine, and Junita, her brother Theophilus, and her beloved grandsons, Robert "Doodie" Johnson and Marcus Johnson. Despite these profound losses, Ethel's spirit remained resilient, and her love continued to grow with each member of her family.
She is survived by her daughters, Dina G. Johnson and Kimberly D. Cole, who were the light of her life. Her love extended to her five grandchildren: Sydney Clark, Kendel Clark, and Miles K. A. Cole, and her great-grandson, Kai B. Johnson. Her siblings, Ernestinge Hendricks, Betty Weldon-Brent, and Thomas Calvin Weldon, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, whom she adored, hold dear the memories of their time with her. Ethel's nieces were always her "favorite," and she cherished them as if they were her own children.
Ethel graduated from Sumner High School in 1965 and soon began a remarkable career with the United States Department of Justice, working for the FBI from 1965 until her retirement in 2002. Her dedication to justice and service did not end there; she continued to impact lives by working with disadvantaged and troubled youth, offering them guidance and hope for a brighter future.
In 1953, Ethel committed her faith to Christ, joining the West Side Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Victor H. Wells. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, guiding her actions and providing comfort through life's challenges.
Known affectionately for her quick wit and honesty, Ethel was never one to shy away from speaking the truth, often reminding others with her favorite phrase, "if you don't want to know the truth, don't ask me." This candor, coupled with her boundless love for her family, made her a cherished confidante and friend.
Ethel found joy in the simple pleasures of life, one of which was her love for assembling picture puzzles. This hobby not only brought her relaxation but also mirrored her knack for seeing the bigger picture and piecing together lives with love and care.
As we bid farewell to Ethel L. Weldon, we celebrate a life well-lived and a legacy of love, truth, and service. Her memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her. Her family invites all who knew her to join in a celebration of her life, where stories of her wit, wisdom, and warmth will be shared, ensuring her spirit lives on in every story told and every memory cherished.
