Ethel Jenkins Young

Ethel Jenkins Young, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on September 14, 2026, at the age of 95. Born on December 14, 1930, in the charming city of Savannah, Georgia, Ethel was the cherished daughter of the late Willie and Bertha Jenkins. She was surrounded by her family who adored her, and she left this world with the same grace and dignity with which she lived. Ethel was preceded in death by her beloved siblings, Willie Jenkins Jr., Nathaniel Jenkins Sr., Louis Jenkins, Ruby Jenkins, and John Jenkins. Her legacy of love and strength continues in her surviving family, including her devoted children, Lucinda (Warren) Bivins and Franklyn (Janice) Young Jr. She was the proud grandmother of Robert Johnson Jr. (Tamikia), Franklyn Leon Young, Lolita Johnson (Korey), Angela Keilani Johnson, and Keturah Young, and her life was further enriched by her seven great-grandchildren, who brought immense joy to her days. Ethel was united in marriage to Franklyn Young Sr., with whom she shared a loving partnership and raised two wonderful children. A woman of remarkable talents and dedication, Ethel graduated from Beach High School and further honed her skills at Madame Cargo Cosmetology School. Her passion for cosmetology spanned over five decades, during which she owned and operated Ethel’s Beauty Nook, a beloved local institution. Additionally, she contributed to her community by working within the Jasper County School System for 13 years. Ethel's faith was a cornerstone of her life, reflected in her active membership at Ridgeland Church of Christ and later at Chapel Hill Church of Christ. She was a guiding light in the Prayer Line Sister Bible Study Group, where she mentored and uplifted others. Despite her age, she embraced new technology, connecting with online members from California to Florida, sharing her wisdom and warmth biweekly. Her hobbies reflected her nurturing spirit; she found peace in tending to her flower garden, joy in giving gifts, and fulfillment in worshiping and spreading good news. Ethel was known for her quick wit and warm smile, qualities that endeared her to all who knew her. The family will honor her life with a private funeral ceremony. They wish to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Georgia Hospice, Pruitt Health, Bay’s Haven, and Chapel Hill Church of Christ for their care and support during Ethel's final days. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Ethel's memory to organizations that were close to her heart. Ethel's life was a testament to love, faith, and resilience. Her legacy will continue to inspire those who were fortunate to know her, and her memory will forever be cherished.
