Esther Lee Smith

Esther, a beloved matriarch and cherished friend, peacefully departed this world at her home on August 20, 2026. Born on May 20, 1934, in the serene town of Scott, Mississippi, Esther was the treasured daughter of R. C. Jones and Willie Mae Monk. Her life was a testament to love, community, and unwavering faith. In 1954, Esther graduated from Coleman High School, setting the stage for a life filled with purpose and dedication. In 1957, she married her beloved James Edward Smith, with whom she shared a beautiful journey until his passing. Together, they nurtured a family rooted in love and respect. Esther is predeceased by her husband, James, and her son, Roderick. She leaves behind her cherished children, Edward (Marjon) and Rochelle, along with her adoring grandchildren, Vincent, Lakera, Jordan, Deidrich, and Rueben, who will forever carry her spirit in their hearts. Esther's professional life was marked by her commitment to education and public service. She began her career as a teacher's assistant at Coleman Jr. High School, a role that allowed her to inspire young minds. Later, she served as a deputy tax assessor for Washington County, where her dedication and integrity were widely respected. An active and devoted member of the Mainstream Toastmistress Club, Esther had a gift for communication and leadership. Sometime later in her life she began studying the Bible with Jehovah's Witnesses and dedicated her life to God Jehovah, symbolizing this by water baptism on January 28, 1995. Her faith was the cornerstone of her life, and she was deeply involved with the Jehovah's Witness community, where she found joy and fulfillment in the teaching of God's word to her Bible students. Esther's passions extended beyond her professional and religious commitments. She loved traveling, sewing, and sharing her knowledge and insights with others through Bible study. Her warmth and generosity left an indelible mark on everyone she met.
