In Loving Memory

Esther Louise Greenwood Murphy
May 26, 1949 — May 28, 2026
It is with heavy hearts and a deep sense of loss that we announce the passing of our beloved Esther Louise Greenwood Murphy, who left this world peacefully on May 28, 2026, just two days after her 77th birthday. Born on May 26, 1949, in the charming city of Charleston, South Carolina, Esther’s life was a tapestry of love, laughter, and resilience.
Esther was the cherished daughter of the late Cecil Louis Greenwood Jr. and Gladys Esther Victory Miller. She is predeceased by her parents, her beloved son Jeffrey Wallace Boehme, and her dear grandparents Hessie Edward Miller and Esther Lou Brownlee Miller. Though our hearts ache with her departure, we find solace in the joyful memories she leaves behind.
A devoted mother, Esther is survived by her loving children: her son James Lewis Earl Walling and his wife Linda. Her daughter Amanda Crystal Victory Holden with her husband David. She was a proud grandmother to six wonderful grandchildren—Brenton, Connor, Bella, Sydnee, Nikki, and Cassiana—and a great-grandmother to James. Her sister, Sandra L Mahon Sr., also survives her, with whom she shared an endearing camaraderie.
Esther was an independent spirit, embracing life as a proud single lady. Her career spanned years of dedicated service as a machine operator at Devro Teepak, followed by her significant contributions at Eaton Aerospace, where she ultimately retired. Her colleagues remember her as a determined worker and a reliable friend.
An aficionado of all things Sci-fi, Esther’s interests were as varied as they were vibrant. She had a zest for the simple joys in life—relishing a great steak and potatoes, indulging in shrimp and crab legs, and exploring thrift shops for hidden treasures. Esther’s artistic flair shone through in her love for painting, while her culinary skills were celebrated in her homemade chicken and dumplings and her talent for canning.
Esther’s heart was as expansive as her hobbies. She had an infectious laugh that could light up the darkest days and a generosity that knew no bounds—she would give you the shirt off her back. Her family was her world, and she cherished every moment spent with them. Her sweet tooth was legendary, as was her love for coffee, which she considered a daily ritual.
One of her greatest joys was her precious pup, Rose, who held an irreplaceable place in her heart. Esther also found great delight in attending the Witches Walk with her best friend Jan, a testament to her playful spirit and love for adventure.
In her final days, Esther was lovingly surrounded by family as she bravely battled cancer for two years. The family extends their deepest gratitude to Dr. Jetter and the compassionate staff at Charleston Oncology, as well as her dedicated hospice team—Sharon, Denise, and her favorite, Melissa. Your unwavering care and support were a source of great comfort, and we are forever grateful.
In keeping with Esther's wishes, a private funeral ceremony will be held to honor her life and legacy. As we bid farewell, we hold fast to her words, "It's never goodbye, it's simply see you later."
Esther’s spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved her. Until we meet again, dear Esther, may you rest in peace, surrounded by the love and laughter you so freely gave to others.
