August 5, 1937 — October 16, 2026

It is with heavy hearts and deep appreciation for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Estella Mae Batts, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Estella peacefully departed this world on October 16, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories. Born on August 5, 1937, in the quaint town of Taylor Town, Louisiana, Estella was the daughter of Victoria Ford Turner Meets and Jessie Henderson. Her early years were shaped by the values and warmth of her family, and she carried these lessons with her throughout her life. In March of 1979, Estella embarked on a new journey to California with three of her eight children, seeking opportunity and a fresh start. There, she worked diligently as a housekeeper at Mt San Antonio Gardens until her well-earned retirement in 1996. In 2005, Estella returned to Shreveport, Louisiana, where she found joy in the simple pleasures of life—watching Monday Night Raw, indulging in John Wayne movies, and savoring the drama of The Young and the Restless. She was a masterful cook, a spirited spades player, and a lover of the blues. These activities filled her days with happiness and created countless memories for her family and friends. Estella was blessed with a large and loving family. She leaves behind six children to carry forward her legacy: Rossevelt Batts Jr. of Texas, Darnell Batts of Shreveport, Louisiana, La Verne Broadenaux of Houston, Texas, Renee Batts Nsiah of Colton, California, Kim Batts of Rialto, California, and Shawn Batts of Shreveport, Louisiana. Her cherished family also includes two sisters, Aretha Tyson of Rialto, California, and Dena of Shreveport, Louisiana; 15 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends. Estella was predeceased by her loving daughters, Bonita Shaw and Tina Batts, as well as her brothers, W.O. Turner and Arthur Lee Williams. Her parents, Victoria Ford Turner Meets and Jessie Henderson, also predeceased her, leaving a legacy that Estella carried forth with grace and love. Her family invites all who knew and loved Estella to join in a celebration of her life on October 25, 2026, at Ebenezer Baptist Church, located at 199 Ebenezer Road, Elm Grove, Louisiana, 71051. It will be a time to remember her warmth, her laughter, and the immeasurable love she shared with each of us. The family of Estella would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has offered prayers, love, support, and words of comfort during this difficult time. Your kindness has brought us strength and solace as we celebrate the life of our beloved Estella. We also offer our sincerest thanks to those who cared for Estella and made a difference in her life.
