Eslyn K. Dolajak
September 3, 1942 — July 1, 2026
Eslyn "Essie" K. Dolajak, born on September 3, 1942, in Belle Fourche, South Dakota, passed away peacefully at home on July 1, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. She was 83 years old. Essie's remarkable journey through life was characterized by her tenacity, her infectious laugh, and a zest for life that touched all who knew her.
Born to parents J. Leroy and Margaret Cooper, Essie grew up in a family deeply rooted in the traditions of ranching. This upbringing inspired her lifelong passion for horses, which she shared with her family and community. She was proud to have been a rodeo queen contestant and enjoyed both watching horse racing and riding horses herself.
Essie married Ronald K. Cornella and together they raised four children during their 21-year marriage. Later in life, she found love again with Victor Dolajak. Essie's family was the center of her world, and she cherished her role as mother to Kasson and Kari Cornella, Valeria Johnson, Nicole Dennison, and Lorena Cornella. Her legacy continues through her 12 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and she was blessed with the joy of meeting her first great-great-grandchild. She is also survived by her sisters Laurie Marshall, Claire and Joel Manausa, and her brother Vere and Annette Cooper.
Though she never pursued a college degree, Essie's career was marked by significant accomplishments. She rose to high standing in several large companies and eventually retired as a buyer from Haliburton, a national corporation, where she was respected for her dedication and professionalism.
Essie was preceded in death by her parents, Leroy and Margaret Cooper; Ronald Cornella; her husband Victor Dolajak; her grandson, Shane Milks; and her sister, Sharla Cooper. She leaves behind a family who will forever cherish her memory and the lessons she imparted, particularly her mantra that quitting was never an option.
Essie's sharp wit and humor were as vibrant as her gardens, which she lovingly tended. Her energy and spirit were a source of inspiration, and her laughter a balm to those around her. She lived life to its fullest, embodying resilience and strength.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Essie's name to a charity of your choice, reflecting her generous spirit and her commitment to making the world a better place. Essy's legacy of laughter, strength, and love will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
Essie will be buried surrounded by family on July 24, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Pine Slope Cemetery, located at 200 SD 34, Belle Fourche, SD 57717.
