In Loving Memory

Ervin Leonard Handy
May 31, 1983 — August 10, 2026
Ervin, born on May 31, 1983, in the warm embrace of Galveston, Texas. Due to Type 1 Diabetes complications, he left this world peacefully at home on August 10, 2026. He was the beloved son of Sandra Ann Handy and Ervin Austin and a cherished brother, nephew, cousin, and friend to many. He is deeply mourned by his surviving siblings Angelica, Brittney, and Brandon, as well as his aunts Debra and Helen, uncles Michael, David and LLoyd Sr., and cousins DeAnna, D'Lana, and Cory. Ervin was predeceased by his mother and his sister Twilla, whose memories he held dear.
Ervin's journey in life was marked by his selfless service and dedication. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during Operation Enduring Freedom, embodying the values of courage and honor. His commitment to excellence was further reflected in his education, which he pursued at UOP, and his career, where he demonstrated diligence and integrity in every endeavor.
Known for his quick wit and contagious humor, Ervin had a knack for bringing laughter and joy to all who knew him. He was a prankster at heart, yet his loyalty and honesty were unwavering. He carried the Handy family name with pride, a sentiment captured by his tattoo, "Ask no questions, and tell no lies."
Ervin was a man of diverse interests. An avid fitness enthusiast, he adhered to a rigorous workout routine that included weights, cardio, cross-fit, and hiking. His neighbors in Dallas often saw him 'rucking' through the community, a testament to his dedication to physical well-being. Martial arts were another passion, and he achieved a brown belt in Taekwondo while pursuing the discipline of Muay Thai.
His intellectual curiosity led him to explore history and languages, mastering German and Spanish while delving into his rich Creole heritage. Ervin was on a culinary journey as well, perfecting his family's seafood gumbo recipe and savoring cuisines from around the world as a true 'foodie.' His love for music was vast, from oldies and western tunes to zydeco, honky-tonk, and blues. He found solace in playing his acoustic guitar, affectionately named "Black Beauty."
Ervin's life will be celebrated in a service on October 13, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at the Veterans Cemetery, his final resting place.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the VA and all those who supported Ervin throughout his life. His legacy of laughter, love, and loyalty will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him.
