Ernie "Big E" McLemore, a beloved son, husband, father, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 6, 2026, surrounded by the love of those who cherished him most. Born on February 28, 1979, in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, Ernie was a beacon of strength, warmth, and humor, known for his resilient spirit and heart as expansive as the Mississippi sky. Ernie was the cherished son of Diane Elizabeth Steele and the late Stanley L. McLemore Sr., who preceded him in death along with his grandparents, Floyd and Leota Steele, and Bill and Ruby McLemore. He leaves behind his devoted mother, Diane, and his siblings, Stanley L. McLemore, along with his wife Melissa, and McKayla Chambliss, alongside her husband Bubba. Ernie's legacy of love continues through his children, Austin Denmark and his wife Kaylie, and Dillion, as well as his treasured grandchildren. Ernie was a devoted husband to Shannon Burkhalter for 18 years. Their bond was one of profound friendship and affection, and they navigated life's journey together with unwavering dedication and love. Though their relationship was uniquely their own, it was clear to all who knew them that they were not only partners but also the best of friends. In his early years, Ernie served as a volunteer firefighter for the Rawls Springs Fire Department. He spoke often of these days, fondly recalling the camaraderie and fulfillment he found in helping others. Despite the challenges life presented, Ernie's zest for adventure never waned. He often joked about making his motorized chair "street legal" as he cruised down the road, a testament to his indefatigable spirit and humor. Ernie's life was a testament to resilience and positivity. He faced each day with courage and an open heart, ready to embrace whatever came his way. Those who met him were touched by his kindness and the genuine love he had for life and those around him. Even in his toughest moments, Ernie's big heart and infectious smile were a source of comfort and inspiration to many. The McLemore family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who supported them through this challenging time. Your visits, condolences, and expressions of love have been a tremendous source of comfort, affirming the profound impact Ernie had on those around him. We are Holding a “Celebration of life Ceremony” to honor Ernie, as he would have wanted. He would want us to think of the times we laughed and the love we shared. Ernie "Big E" McLemore will be dearly missed, but his legacy of love, laughter, and resilience will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
