ERNESTINE (LUTEN) CHATMAN was born in Fulton, Kentucky on Wednesday, August 2, 1933. She was the daughter of and Katherine Stunson and Ernest Luten. She was affectionately called “Tina” by family and friends. Ernestine was educated in Michigan, Ypsilanti Public School System. Ernestine, who did not work outside the home, was committed to the rearing and well-being of her children. She professed the Christian faith and was a dedicated, life-time member of The Columbus Bible Way Church (Columbus, Ohio). As a believer and blessing to others, Ernestine faithfully served in her church as well as volunteered at Youth for a Positive Image. She was a supporter and avid fan of the University of Michigan Wolverines Football and Basketball Athletics. Nonetheless, she would occasionally cheer for The Ohio State Buckeyes, whenever they weren’t playing Michigan. Blessed with 92 years of life, our beloved Ernestine “Tina” Chatman transitioned to her heavenly home on Sunday, February 22nd 2026, while in the care of Kobacker House. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Edward Chatman, Sr.; sons, Marvin Hunter and Mark Chatman; and siblings, JoAnn McCoy and Bernie Drumright. Celebrating her life are her children, Katherine Bell, William (Saundra) Hunter, and Edward (Barbara) Chatman Jr.; twelve grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren, of whom she was a very proud grandmother; brother, Lonnie Taylor Jr.; as well as a host of other family members and many friends.
