Ernest “Shaggy” Bragg

October 5, 1976 — June 14, 2026

Ernest “Shaggy” Bragg, a devoted partner, loving father, cherished grandfather, and loyal friend, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home, surrounded by his loving family, on June 14, 2026. Born on October 5, 1976, in Brooklyn, New York, Ernest's life was a tapestry of love, family, and friendship, woven with threads of joy and resilience. Ernest was lovingly brought up by his grandparents, Rosalee and Stanley Sealy, who instilled in him values of kindness, hard work, and unwavering loyalty. He now joins them in eternal rest, along with his beloved mother, Denise Bragg; his sister, Lenice Bragg; his uncle, C.J.; and his aunt, Susan. Though their absence leaves a profound void, their spirits live on in the cherished memories Ernest held close to his heart. Surviving Ernest is his beloved life partner of 31 years, Eliza Nance, who stood by his side through life's triumphs and challenges. Together, they built a family filled with love and laughter, raising four remarkable children: Rolisia, Jalisia, Kareema, and Jacob. Ernest's legacy of love continues through his treasured grandchildren, Brielle and Qualon, who brought immeasurable joy to his life. Ernest is also survived by his father, David Doctor; his brother, Perry; his sister, Tasia; his nieces, Britney and Damiannah; his uncles Leon, Lewis, and Bobby; his aunt Debbie; and a host of loving cousins, including Connie, Maurice, C.J., Alisha, Leon, Quezy, Jahteek, Khalim, Sumayya, Davonte, Tristan, and Sabriah. His special friends, Dre, Ray, Somu, Roysten, Black, and Bones, shared countless memories, laughter, and brotherhood with him throughout the years, forming bonds that transcended time and distance. Educated at Maxwell High School, Ernest found his professional calling as an experienced asbestos worker. His work was more than a job; it was a testament to his dedication and determination to provide for those he loved. A true people person, Ernest was happiest surrounded by family and friends. He relished the simple joys of life, like barbecuing, grilling, swimming, and riding his motorcycle. Whether playing skelly, basking at the beach or pool, or engaging in spirited video game battles, particularly with his unbeatable skills in Street Fighter, Ernest was the heart of every gathering. His love for baseball and basketball was inspired by his late Uncle C.J., with whom he shared a special bond and a passion for baseball card collecting. Ernest's famous homemade potato salad was a highlight at family gatherings, as was his infectious laughter and warm smile, which had the power to light up any room. He found joy in watching Dave Chappelle, indulging in Chinese food with extra ketchup, and relaxing with friends, creating memories that will be cherished forever by all who knew him. Family, friends, and all whose lives Ernest touched are invited to celebrate his life on June 26, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Meyers Funeral Home, located in Delmar, New York. As we gather to honor Ernest's remarkable life, we remember the love, joy, and warmth he brought into our lives, and we hold onto the memories that will forever keep him alive in our hearts. In Ernest’s memory, let us carry forward his legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering loyalty, and remember him always as a beacon of light and love in our lives.
