Ernest Sam Harris, a cherished father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on December 24, 1953, in Dover, Ohio, Ernest lived a life rich with love, adventure, and dedication, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew him. Ernest was the beloved son of the late Homer Henry Harris and Maria Candida Harris (née Leone). He grew up in a home filled with warmth and laughter, shared with his sister, the late Patricia Slimack, who, along with her husband, Dr. Nicholas Slimack, predeceased him. He is also preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Danny Johnson. Despite these profound losses, Ernest remained a pillar of strength and resilience, a testament to his enduring spirit. A proud alumnus of New Philadelphia High School, Ernest graduated in 1971, embarking on a journey that would see him become a cornerstone of the Dover community. He devoted over 40 years of his career to Greer Steel Industries, where his colleagues became an extended family, and his legacy of hard work and commitment will be remembered for years to come. Ernest's heart was as expansive as his talents; known for his uncanny ability to fix nearly anything, he was the person everyone turned to in times of need. His affinity for motorcycles, hot rods, and music painted the vibrant canvas of his life, while his love for the outdoors and summer months showcased his appreciation for life's simplest pleasures. His warmth and generosity were felt by those far and wide, for Ernest had friends everywhere he went. His genuine smile and infectious laughter brightened even the darkest days, leaving behind countless treasured memories. Ernest's legacy lives on through his beloved children: his daughter, Lindsey Harris, and his son, Seth Harris, along with his daughter-in-law, Emily. His pride and joy, grandson Calum, will continue to carry forward his spirit of adventure and kindness. Ernest is also survived by his dear sister, Sherry Johnson, and cousin, Geraldo Leone, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and close friends who will all miss him dearly. In accordance with Ernest's wishes, a private Celebration of Life service will be held with family and close friends. In this intimate gathering, stories of Ernest's adventures, his profound love for his family, and his unwavering kindness will be shared, ensuring his memory continues to inspire and uplift those he leaves behind. Ernest Sam Harris was a man of boundless love and generosity. His legacy is a tapestry woven with strength, compassion, and joy.
