March 8, 1958 — February 28, 2026

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ernest "Poncho" Frank Vigil, who departed this world on February 28, 2026, just days before his 68th birthday. Born on March 8, 1958, in Pueblo, Colorado, Poncho was a beloved husband, devoted father, cherished grandfather, and a friend to many. Poncho was the treasured son of the late Ernest Vigil and Mary Martinez, and his stepfather, the late Nemecio Martinez, who played a significant role in his upbringing. He was preceded in death by his sister Virginia, brother Mike, brother Alfred (Joe), and sister Ernestine. Despite these profound losses, Poncho's spirit remained resilient and full of life. In September of 1979, Poncho married the love of his life, Lucy Vigil. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and shared moments that spanned nearly five decades. Lucy stood by his side through life's peaks and valleys, and their enduring partnership was a testament to their unwavering commitment to each other. Poncho's legacy lives on through his children: daughters Roberta Vigil and Ruthie (Cisco) Vigil Mendez, and son Frankie Vigil. He was a proud grandfather to Angelo (Jess) Vigil, Leonard (Daisy) Vigil, Isaiah Mendez, and Frankie Mendez. His great-grandchildren, Julian and Giovanni Vigil, were the latest joys of his heart, who brought him immeasurable happiness and pride. He is also survived by his siblings, Angie (Victor) Lopez, Esther Chuka (Armando) Murillo, and Danny (Dorothy) Vigil, along with numerous godchildren, including Andrew, Kristie, Cindi, and Danielle. Poncho's extended family of nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, and countless friends will forever remember his generosity and kindness. Poncho was a well-respected mechanic, dedicating his career to helping others by sharing his expertise and lending a hand to anyone in need. His passion for cars extended beyond his profession; in his younger years, he actively participated in car races, a testament to his adventurous spirit. An avid sports lover, Poncho cherished playing ball and found joy in the simple pleasures of life. His greatest pride, however, was his family. Poncho was never happier than when surrounded by those he loved, celebrating their achievements, and forging memories that will last a lifetime. A celebration of Poncho's life will be held on March 27, 2026, at 12:00 PM at the Lakewood New Life Center. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has come together to honor Poncho's life and legacy. Your support and love during this time mean the world to us. In remembering Ernest "Poncho" Frank Vigil, we celebrate a life well-lived, filled with love, laughter, and an indelible impact on all who knew him. His spirit will live on in the hearts of those he left behind. Poncho, you will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.
