February 6, 1950 — June 4, 2026

Ernest Gene Miller, a beacon of joy and a melody to those who knew him, passed away peacefully on June 4, 2026, at the age of 76. Born on February 6, 1950, in the serene town of Greeleyville, South Carolina, Ernest was a beloved son to the late Louise Miller and Ezell Robinson. He was a cherished brother, a devoted husband, a loving father, and a proud grandfather and great-grandfather. Ernest’s journey through life was marked by his profound love for music and his unwavering faith. Known for his quick wit and warm smile, Ernest had a rare gift for making those around him feel welcomed and valued. His laughter was infectious, and his kindness was a balm to many souls. On November 3, 1973, he married the love of his life, Sarah Ragins, in a heartfelt ceremony in Greeleyville. Together, they built a life filled with laughter, music, and cherished memories, nurturing a family that became their greatest achievement. Though Sarah preceded him in death, the love they shared remains a testament to their enduring bond. Ernest was a dedicated laborer at an industrial plant in Manning, South Carolina, until illness touched his life. Despite the hardships, his resilience and strength remained unshaken. For over 50 years, he was an active and devoted member of Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church, where his voice and music became a cornerstone of the community. As the church musician and a choir member, Ernest’s melodies inspired and uplifted countless hearts. His talent extended beyond the church as he played lead guitar in two gospel groups, leaving an indelible mark through his passion for music. He was predeceased by his parents, his brothers Sammie Parker and George Miller, his sisters Hurley Hall and Rosa Hilton, and his beloved wife, Sarah. His legacy lives on through his surviving family: his children, Elaine (Robert) Gathers and Kevin Miller; his sister, Ella Mae Parker; and his treasured grandchildren, Dequane, Essence, I'Yonna, A'nya, and his special great-granddaughter, Paige. Ernest also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, and cherished friends, including Ellis Conyers, Louis Johnson, and Mark and Mike, who all held a special place in his heart. A celebration of Ernest’s life will be held on June 9, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church. This gathering will be a testament to a life well-lived, honoring a man who brought light and laughter into the lives of those who had the privilege of knowing him. In the hearts of those he touched, Ernest’s legacy of love, music, and joy will forever echo, a beautiful melody that continues to inspire and uplift. As we say goodbye, we remember a man who truly lived, loved, and laughed, leaving this world a better place than he found it.
