Erma Lee Otts Dixon, a beloved matriarch and cherished member of the community, passed away peacefully at her home in Beaverton, Alabama, on May 30, 2026, at the age of 91. Surrounded by the love and care of her devoted son, David, and the compassionate support of Hospice and other caretakers, Erma's departure was serene and filled with grace. Born on February 8, 1935, in Sulligent, Alabama, to Ermon Otts and Doris Mae Nolen Otts, Erma was the embodiment of warmth and kindness. She was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved husband, Henry Dixon Jr., whom she married on September 14, 1957. Together, Erma and Henry owned and operated the Sulligent Pharmacy for 22 years, serving their community with dedication and care. Erma was a proud graduate of Sulligent High School, class of 1952, and her life was a testament to the values of hard work, love, and devotion. After Henry's passing, she continued to touch lives through her work as a student aide and then an office clerk at Sulligent Elementary School, later contributing her talents at the Department of Human Services in Vernon. Additionally, Erma devoted her time to caring for homebound patients, offering them comfort and companionship. Known for her calm demeanor and an easy-going nature, Erma possessed a good sense of humor that brightened the lives of those around her. Her hands were rarely still, as she found joy in sewing, crocheting, and crafting, often creating clothing for her children with loving care. In her later years, Erma embraced the joy of dance, spending lively evenings with her lady friends, celebrating life with every step. Erma's legacy lives on through her beloved children: Charlotte (Lamar) Gilliland, Angela (Kelly) Lambert, David Dixon, and Jeane (Michael) Dodd. Her light shines brightly in her grandchildren: Will Shadden, Abbie Shadden, Brewer (Alyssa) Gilliland, Tanner (Courtney) Gilliland, Nolen Dodd, and Eli Dodd, as well as her great-grandchildren: Adelyna Shadden, Vera Gilliland, and Sutton Gilliland. A service to honor Erma's life will be held at Otts Funeral Home, located at 4255 Hwy 278, Sulligent, Alabama 35586. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Hospice of North Alabama, in recognition of the tender care they provided. The Dixon family extends heartfelt gratitude to Hospice of North Alabama, Beaverton Freewill Baptist Church, and their dear friend Tracy Taylor for their unwavering support and kindness during this time. Erma Lee Otts Dixon will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her unwavering love for her family, and her commitment to her community. Her life was a tapestry woven with love and laughter, and her memory will forever be cherished by all who were fortunate to know her.
