Erma Lafaye Boutte, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 4, 2026, after a courageous battle with breast cancer. Born on October 17, 1953, in Houston, Texas, Erma was the eldest daughter of Enoch Hall and Mary Louise Jefferson, both of whom predeceased her.
Erma's life was a testament to resilience, love, and service. She graduated from Phyllis Wheatley High School in 1972 and continued her education at Texas Southern University. With determination and a commitment to excellence, she earned a Bachelor's degree in Accounting from LeTourneau University. Erma went on to build a remarkable 35-year career as a Logistics Accountant with ChevronTexaco, where her dedication and work ethic left a lasting legacy.
Beyond her professional achievements, Erma's true passion lay in her unwavering commitment to her community and family. She opened her heart and home to foster over 150 children in Harris and Galveston County, offering them hope and a sense of belonging. In her later years, she found joy in working for the Galveston branch of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Houston, continuing her lifelong mission of nurturing and caring for others.
Erma was a pillar of strength and compassion, known for her generosity, kind heart, and loving spirit. Her gift for baking the most delightful desserts and her ability to make everyone feel welcome and valued will be fondly remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Her faith was a guiding force in her life, as she served as an active Prayer Partner for Lakewood Church for many years, offering support and inspiration to those around her.
Erma is survived by her loving children, Terry Hall and La Shayvia Deen-Smith, and her devoted son-in-law, Michael Smith. Her legacy continues through her cherished grandchildren, Tarian Hall and his wife Meghan, Marcell Collins II, Dallas Collins, and great-grandchildren, Tegan Hall, Tatum Hall, and Teddy Hall. She also leaves behind her dear sister, Mary Ann Hall, and a host of cousins and close friends who will forever treasure her memory.
A celebration of Erma's life will be held on August 22, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Lakewood Church, located at 3700 Southwest Freeway, Houston, Texas 77027. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Lakewood Church and Ross Mortuary Inc. for their unwavering support during this difficult time.
