Erlene Goodman September 5, 1945 – June 11, 2026 With hearts heavy yet grateful for a life well-lived, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Erlene Goodman, who departed from this world on June 11, 2026, at the age of 80. Born in Williamsburg County on September 5, 1945, Erlene was a cherished daughter of the late Ellis Shaw and Henery Goodman, who have now welcomed her into their eternal embrace. Erlene's life was a testament to resilience, love, and community spirit. She was a devoted sister to John, Elroy, Betty, Joseph, and Mary Ann Goodman, sharing with them a treasure trove of childhood memories and lifelong bonds. Her laughter and bright smile were her trademarks, lighting up every room she entered. In February of 1964, Erlene married the love of her life, Joe Montgomery, and together they crafted a beautiful family filled with love and laughter. Although Joe's untimely passing in 1974 left a profound void, Erlene continued to nurture their shared legacy through their two children, Mae Montgomery and Calvin Goodman, alongside her other cherished children—Mary Goodman, Green Al Montgomery, James Goodman, and Mason Goodman. Erlene was a proud and loving grandmother to Monica, Calvin Jr., Carla, Lamont, Tevin, Megan, Mia, Ashely, Allen, Kayla, Terry, and Ronda, and a great-grandmother to seven precious little ones. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the lights of her life, and she took immense joy in sharing her love for fishing, cooking, and baking with them, passing down not only recipes but also life lessons. A graduate of St. Mart Elementary School, class of 1964, Erlene was a diligent worker who began her career at the local cleaners in 1966. She later contributed her talents to Frank Moseley Store, now known as C.E. Moseley, where she was known for her unwavering commitment and warm demeanor. Erlene was a pillar of strength and faith within the Mt. Olive Baptist Church in the Bloomingville Community. An active member, she sang in the choir and shared her culinary gifts by baking cakes that brought joy to countless church gatherings. Her culinary creations, especially her cakes, were legendary, drawing compliments and smiles from all who tasted them. Her dedication to her community and her church was unwavering. Erlene's warm heart and bright smile will be dearly missed, but her legacy of love and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. A memorial service will be held to honor Erlene's life on June 15, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, located at 5428 Thurgood Marshall Hwy, Kingstree, SC 29556. The Goodman family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to everyone for the overwhelming support, prayers, and love during this time of bereavement. Knowing that Erlene was loved and cherished by so many brings comfort and peace. She will forever be remembered for the joy she brought into our lives and will always hold a special place in our hearts. May Erlene Goodman rest in eternal peace, her spirit soaring high, wrapped in love and everlasting grace.
