July 28, 1959 — June 7, 2026

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Eric Lane, who left this world peacefully at his home on June 7, 2026, after a short illness. Eric was born on July 28, 1959, in Brookhaven, Mississippi, to his beloved mother, the late Marie Lane Townes. He was 66 years old at the time of his passing. Eric was a beacon of kindness and resilience, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him. His life was a testament to perseverance, passion, and the power of community. He was preceded in death by his mother, Marie Lane Townes, and his siblings, Deborah Houston, Rhonda Charlotte, and Demetrial Townes, along with his cherished Aunt Jessie M. Williams and Uncle Michael Williams. Eric's journey began at Lynwood High School, where he graduated in 1978. His passion for knowledge and sports led him to Taft College and then to San Jose State University, where he furthered his education and showcased his talents on the football field. At San Jose State, Eric found not just teammates but a brotherhood. He was known as a line brother, a title he carried with pride and dignity, as he crossed the sands of Alpha Phi Alpha on March 27, 1982, under the Mighty Line of "JAHI" Men of Dignity. In a brief but honorable stint, Eric enlisted in the Army on May 25, 1987, and was honorably discharged on June 18, 1987, demonstrating his commitment to service and duty. His heart, however, belonged to the open greens of the golf course, where he found joy and camaraderie. An active member of the golf community, Eric enjoyed traveling and playing, making friends and memories that would last a lifetime. Eric is survived by his loving siblings, Willie Renae (Jerome Cochran) and Maria Lane, who will forever cherish his memory. He leaves behind his dear aunts, Lula Williams and Alberta Williams of Brookhaven, Mississippi, and Lessie Thompson of Gardena, CA. His uncles, James Williams (Sylvia) of San Marcos, CA, and Stanley Williams of Los Angeles, also mourn his passing. Eric's legacy continues through his nephews, Barry Cunnigan Jr. (Liset) and Algernons, and his nieces, Tawana Marie, Allsha, along with a host of cousins, other relatives, and friends who will miss his warmth and generosity. Eric's life will be celebrated on July 1, 2026, at 11:00 AM at McKay's Mortuary South Bay Marine Chapel, located at 3918 Marine Ave, Lawndale, CA 90260. Family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by Eric are warmly invited to join in honoring his memory and sharing in the joy he brought to this world. In remembering Eric, we hold onto the love and laughter he shared, the lessons in dignity and compassion he taught, and the unwavering spirit that will forever inspire us. May he rest in peace, surrounded by the love of those who went before him and held in the hearts of all who knew him.
